Anyone get the Cradle + snap on piece

I just got the Motorala RAZR V3M, not to hot about the phone but its ok, the main reason I got it was so I could utilize the cradle.

I called my Stealer and they quoted me $300+ for the parts and said it about a 3 hour installation - Does this sound right?

It depends on what you have already installed. There are three parts required: the docking cradle, the trim piece, and the adapter. Each is separate even though you'd think the trim piece would come with the cradle. The cradle and trim costs about $120 and the adapter costs about $70. Installation instructions provided by BMW states 30 minutes. It involved removing the trim boot from around the emergency brake, passing a wire and a cable through the console and connecting same to corresponding terminals, clipping the cables to the underneath of the console, snapping in the cradle and trim inside the console, snapping in the adapter, and refitting the brake boot. I don't think they need to do anything with the cables in the left side of the trunk. My installation actually took 40 minutes.

Its a great little mod/add on if you plan to use your phone for a long time. i have a sony e k790a phone and had to special order the euro snapin unit. it charges the phone and uses the built in ext ant for enhance signal. it took me all of 15-20 min to install. I used to lose cel signal completely at my works underground parking but now get high signal and clearer audio performance while driving.

I tried to read the DIY on the forum, but the pictures were very blurry. Do these instructions from BMW come with the parts?

I believe so. If not, you can always ask the service or parts department.

I have a car charger plugged into the outlet in the center storage box and I put my phone in there. Why do you need a cradle?? I just have to turn it off and on; I don't know if the cradle does that automatically.

The cradle does three things. It charges the cell phone. It connects the cell phone to the external antenna. It keeps the cell phone from rattling and shifting about in the console.

I used to use a charger in the console before getting the cradle. The cell phone shifted about so much that I found it would sometimes turn itself off, apparently by bumping the button on the end (only explanation I can come up with).

Before, during, or after? I didn't take photos before. The local dealer did the work so I don't think they took pictures during. I might be able to get photos maybe tomorrow of what it looks like now but it looks pretty much like it does in the accessories booklet.

It cost me $375 total for the same setup installed at the Performance Center.

Thanks, good to know. I will use that as a benchmark. I am still debating on whether or not to try the install myself.
