2008 328xi Setup - wheels/tires/springs?

I'm a soon to be owner of a 08 328xi coupe -- I thought I would post in this section as well because I'm not sure about my current stock setup

Keeping with the AWD theme that I had in my previous Subaru Sti I went for the xi with my 328. I am looking fwd to the comfort/piece of mind of the xdrive but now I am worrying about it sitting too high. Does it really look that crappy?? I’m almost tempted in the next few months to go with this setup: 1) 18 x 8.0 Silver M6 wheels and get either the HR sport springs KW or coilovers to drop it. I’m a bit hesitant since I don’t want to mess up the AWD suspension…does anyone have any input on i) how this negatively affects the AWD component and ii) how much I should lower the car by (don’t want a staggered setup – just nice, clean look with the 18s and no rubbing!!) Or, I was just thinking of lowering and not changing the 17s that come stock. I"m a bit confused about the offset as well. What exactly does that mean? 33 all the way round seems to be the preferred setup for the e92. I dont want anything too aggressive!

Also, I have no clue what tires I should get with the M6 rims and springs/coilovers. I want a pair of quality, all season tires that go well with this planned set up on the 328xi.

Sorry for the ignorance -- I'm new the suspension/wheel game.

Any help would be much much appreciated!!! thanks

Where in jersey are you from? I have a 328xi I have H&R Sport springs, but i still think it should be lower. XI's ride soo much higher than the regular 328i oe 335i, that sport springs dont do much for the car. you should do coilovers or H&R Race springs.

Northern Jersey, Morristown area. Funnily enough I haven't seen too many coupes where I am!
I was planning on going with your setup with the H&R sport springs. How much did you drop it by? If it's not enough...maybe I will look into the coilovers.

Do you think a 1.3-1.5 drop will look good with 18s on the xi? I've been told not to go over 18.0 on the xi

thanks for all your input guys!!!

not over 18" on xi? where did you hear that? im gonna be on 19's staggerd with 245/45/19 and 275/30/19. from my research people have said as long as their the same overall diameter it shouldnt be a problem..well i checked on the website and its off by only .1" so i think it should be ok...

Cool - couple of quick questions: i) what exactly does staggered mean...I'm assuming it means the front wheels are bigger the the rear or vice versa?
also ii) where did you get those chrome exhaust tips for your xi?

staggered is wider in the rear, it gives more traction to the car...i got the exhaust tips at circlebmw in NJ, i think it was $58 shipped.

no race springs for xi coupes yet, your only option to go lower are the KW V3s
theyre expensive, but hey theyre worth it

or just wait a while, more springs should be released since the 335xi coupes are rolling out.

that's what I'm thinking -- I might just wait.
In addition to the KW coilovers I'm pretty sure I saw the H&R race springs and sport springs for the xi on **********s: http://www.**********s.com/product.a...Springs_E90_PR

I am happy with the H&R sports on my 328xi. My ride is definitely more harsh and I plan to eventually get coilovers when my shocks wear out (which will be sooner than normal, I've heard).

^^ dude, this pic is HUGE help. thanks it definitely looks good with the H&R springs. Like you, I'll prob start off with the springs and then move over to coilvers -- KV most likely. I was getting a bit worried because I haven't seen too many coupe xi's that have been lowered

Quick question....how much did you lower both the front and the rear?? What do you recommend...I want a setup like yours it looks very clean. I definitely anticipate a harsher ride but that's expected. I actually think I"m going to keep the stock rims now. If i upgrade to 19 it might get too harsh for me to handle.

thanks

I'm getting a 328xi coupe also (hopefully on monday!) and have been looking what I can do. Few points...

- I already bought a set of H&R sport springs but I'm going to wait to put them on until Bilstein comes out with their shocks
- We're so close to winter already, I'm going to put springs/shocks on after winter
- The optional 18" wheels on our cars from the factory are a staggered setup. The important thing to remember is maintaining the overall diameter for the xDrive system
- I'm looking for a 18" wheel/summer tire combo and keeping my 17" wheels/all-seasons for winter.

i've also heard of the overall diameter being the same rule...but the tires i bought were 245/35/19 and 275/30/19...According to the website, its off by .1 of an inch, do you think it will really be a problem?

I'm thinking about a very simular setup: 18" wheel/tire combo for summer and keeping the stock 17" with all season run-flats for winter.

I'm not sure if I want to do the H&R springs + set of shocks or if I just want to do coilovers only (like KV variant 1). Any advantages to either one?
Also - I'm still looking to find out how much you should drop the car by. I just want a clean, not too agressive look....keeping in mind that I will drop first then add the wheels/tires

I just realized that the only KV Coilovers that are available for the xi are variant 3 -- why is that??

Hopefully picking up my long awaited 2008 328xi Coupe 10/17. Wondering about swapping out the stock Style 157 17" wheels for BMW OEM Style 187's (also 17") and keeping the RF tires on year around OR keeping the stock setup unchanged for winter and getting some nice 18" and performance tires for summer.

2 questions: 1) I like the look of the 187's. Has anyone seen any photos of these on a 328 (other than the OEM photo contained in another thread)?

2) When you put NON run flats on, what do you do when you get a flat, having no spare tire available? (and calling AAA in the middle of nowhere may not get you running).

Dumb questions, but I'm a newbie. Thanks.

No idea, its just the only ones they released for it. KW does this sometimes - they may sometimes just make a high end for a certain reason or another. At least you guys get the best coilovers for the xi's.
