Wheel failure information
Having suffered from the infamous 2 cracked rear problem that has been mentioned in a number of posts on this forum already, I was informed by BMW that while they fit within the 2mm radius variation that would permit them to be replaced on goodwill, BMW have decided that they are unwilling to offer goodwill.
This is clearly something that has made me somewhat unhappy and speaking to some proper engineers, was informed that only under the most extreme circumstances should any wheel fail. They suggested that I speak to VOSA. This was a very interesting conversation and resulted in them directly asking me to provide them with information as they consider the circumstances of the failure to be unusual and potentially dangerous. If any of you are of the view that cracked wheels are an unacceptable fault and have suffered from the fault with your BMW, can I ask that you write to VOSA at enquiries@vosa.gov.uk and detail your experiences and the fault you suffered. This is for UK owners only. VOSA commits to providing feedback on any actions taken to investigate and potentially rectify the problem if it decides to take action. |
