Koni Yellow (how many turns do I have??)
Just popped on a set of Koni Yellows on my car (coupled with H&R sport springs)..
The rears are set to 1 turn from soft The front is set to full soft (to break them in - I'll dial them in next week) My question is how many turns do I have in the front and in the rear from full soft to full stiff?

Umm. Experiment with the front and see how many you have should be a bit over 2, like 2.25 to 2.5. BTW I have read you are not supposed to run these fully turned one way or the other they may get damaged. So if I were you I'd run them 1/4 to 1/2 turn off full soft in front to start with.
The other thing is they are not linear WRT turns so if you have say 2.5 full turns lock to lock really only the middle 1.5 or so range of turns adjust anything. |

Try 1.5 turns from soft up front OP. The rears sound about right for those springs.

So my other problem is that.. the front strut bar is covering the adjustment points for the front setup...
I'd have to remove the entire strut bar to adjust... godamn.. any way around this? I'd use pliers.. but that wouldn't be too precise and I'm scared of ruining the adjustment clamps.

You should verify the range by going from full soft to full hard and then back to full soft with the set you have. Per Koni's website, you have a range of 2.5 front and rear. On the set that I received and installed in May 2013, I have 2.5 on the front, but only 1.75 on rear (2012 mfg date). Since then I have had one rear shock that was replaced by Koni USA (2011 mfg date, I think) and that had a 1.75 range as well. For the rear set up, I extrapolated the 1.75 actual range with factory stated range of 2.5 turns and ended up with .8 turn ~ 1 turn. For the front, I am at 1.25 turn from full soft.
Worthwhile to note I have UUC sways in front and rear, ZSP springs, and non-RFT Last edited by thegrinchboy; 12-17-2013 at 11:08 AM.. |

TCKline sells a tool, like a screwdriver with a slot in it. $20. You could make one, someone did here. Alternatively you may be able to use a 1/4" drive socket of the right size, on a U-joint. I have thought of this but never tried it. In any case you do not need to remove the strut bar entirely, just undo the bolts near the shock pull it up a bit and that is enough to adjust carefully. Again I would not get too carried away here, adjust the fronts down to 1/2 or so off full soft, see if that improves the feel. Since we are heading into winter, mess around til you find the right front setting, then take the rears off (once) and set them the same. Get used to that over the winter then by spring you'll have a better idea where you want to go if anywhere differnt. |
