Winter is here
Last night was driving home about 10.30 and for the first time since summer the car gave the warning sound for low temp. Then when i was leaving for work this morning windscreen was all iced up. So winters officially here.
Anyway, this morning when i put on the blower to defrost the screen i was reminded of a strange problem that i had last winter and then forgot about. I pressed screen demist button which should turn the blower on full speed right? Well when i press it the blower does come on and the display shows it as max speed, but it doesnt feel or sound like its on max. However as soon as i start to drive off it suddenly comes to life the way it should be. I dont even have to actually move the car. As soon as i bring the clutch to biting point there is a sudden rush of air. But then when driving the speed occasionally drops for a few seconds and then fixes itself. I have tried manually adjusting the speed to max but the same thing happens. Any ideas how to fix this? |

As far as i know that is true when on auto. But if manually adjusting to max then should it not blow at full speed? And i believe that when you press the front screen button it should always come on full, as far as i cam remember this has always been the case with previous bmws.
If you are right, it doesnt explain why it suddenly come on full when at biting point (even when engine is still cold) or why it keeps changing when driving. Im sure there is something wrong somewhere. |

I think this came out before...a few years ago....
You need to let the car warm up...i.e the engine....my one does the same....when i first start the car, even when i select the temperature to max... it's not a microwave you know, only a few seconds to warm things up! lol |

I understand the issue of allowing the car to warm up. As the engine warms it automatically increases the fan speed. If it was the engine temp restricting the speed it wouldnt go fast slow fast slow fast. This is not the first bmw i have driven but its the first to have this problem.
The problem i am having is a seperate issue. I am talking about manually putting fan speed to max, not the temp. But it doesnt blow full speed no matter if i turn the temp all the way to min or max. It suddenly blows full speed then goes slow again. |

I am having the same issue this morning. It was -30 C on the instrument panel this morning and my car really hated it. I hate it too. 09 335 no warr.
The blower only started working about 50% capacity about 30 min into my drive, however it was blowing very warm warm air.... why can it not go faster? Also, the REST feature does not work. OP, does you REST feature work? Yesterday, I got a low battery indiciator when i was leaving work. I took it for a good drive and it went away. This morning everything was OK battery wise as well (no warning lights). I think it actually is the battery considering the REST function didn't work either. Blower was replaced under warranty last year. Thoughts? |

the blower motor needs some lubrication, if you remove the pollen/carbon filter on the bulkhead and look at the aperture on the passenger side you can see the blower fan standing upright, just give it a squirt of wd40 or similar and turn it on.
