DMV annual registration fee on previous car (delinquent payment)
I sold my previous car to someone who said he/she would export it about a year ago. So I signed the pink slip and they said they would hand it over to the DMV when they would ship it. This was probably not the smartest thing to do.
Annual registration fee was due in August 2013 but I did not pay since I did not have the car anymore. I moved also in the meantime so I did not get reminders etc and now I got a payment reminder saying final notice delinquent payment. What should I do now? Do I pass by the DMV to explain and they will remove the car from their register? Do I still have to pay the fees? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks |

You should be able to complete the Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability form; assuming you still have the new owner's name and address (at the time).
I always complete these forms after a selling a vehicle; it's the only way for you as a seller to completely release all CA DMV responsibilities and fees.
