Meth or downpipes?

I have a e92 335xi 6MT, mods currently are jb4, injen dci, southbend stage 2 clutch & 7" vrsf FMIC. looking for some more pull, so what to do next?

whats everyones take of meth or downpipes.

Meth = easy install, downpipes = tough install.

What will give me better power gains?

Catless DPs then Meth. You're going to burn the Cats and not get the same power you would with meth if you didn't have the cats.

So, DPs ->Meth

meth = easy install? No.

I mean it's not technically that tough, but it can be time consuming which is all that matters from a labor cost standpoint.

A good indy can swap downpipes faster than they can install a good trunk mount meth setup. I had my downpipes swapped out in 90 minutes tops, it's not a big deal for a tech who has done it before.

I'd start with downpipes and go from there. You'll get nice power gains, your turbos will thank you, and it sets the stage for further power down the line. You'll start to get nasty backpressure and EGT with the stock catted downpipes, even with meth helping to cool combustion.

I would recommend breathing modifications first.

like every1 said, i would go with downpipes first.

I just got mine last installed the other day and am very happy with the results. I've noticed more power, boost comes on so much faster (faster spool up), increased throttle response, and overall the turbos just breathe better. the only bad thing is my wastegates rattle so much more now, its pretty embarrassing

Meth could potentially be more power and it could be an easy install if you've done it many times before.

Although I still recommend downpipes or an intercooler first.

Methanol is not for amateurs and one should realize it is a band aid at the end of the day. It should really be only used for cooling of intake temps and not necessarily used for maximum performance.

I think it's important people really focus on the second part of your post. If you really wanted to you could squeeze some pretty heroic bottom line numbers out of a meth+tune only setup.

It would also be unsafe. Don't use meth as fuel kids.

DPs for sure.

Like mentioned, unless you are experienced with Meth and know the tell tale signs of meth failures and/or have solid failsafes in place, you should not tune for meth. I have no issue with using it as a cooling aid, but tuning for the most power possible with meth is just a ticking time bomb. something as small as a plugged nozzle or a hose popping off, could ruin your engine.

+1 & 2. If you need advice talk to my piston #6 sitting on my desk, haha. Just do full bolt ons and a stage 2 tune for regular driving and if you want to have some fun throw in some 100 oct and run more advanced timing.

So go with DPs!!!

+1

Downpipes aren't any harder than a meth kit! It's all about tools and experience wrenching on cars! DP's +1,000,000

All,

When running catless is the exhaust fumes not overwhelming particularly when sitting in stop and go traffic? And is the autoclear the only option when it comes to keeping CEl off and can it be programmed into back end flash.at least that's the way I had it done on my EVoX when I did my protune.
