Actual discounts offered on new BMWs
My car is due here in a few days, but I am still on the fence over the disparity between Canadian and US prices. I'd love to have a new 335, but the price difference is too great to not be annoyed.
One piece of ammunition that would help all of us who are waiting for their new cars is the knowledge of the actual discounts that other people are able to get. My dealer here in Ottawa tells me that BMW Canada limits the amount of discount they are "allowed" to give -- this sounds like total BS to me. They've offered me $2000 off list -- this is 3.11% of the total price ($62345.) My car is a 335i sedan (Sport|Premium|Nav|Sound|met paint|CA|PDC.) What is everyone else getting on their new rides? I'd really like to know if this is a reasonable number -- if not I will be walking away from the deal tomorrow (unless they give me better..) Thanks Last edited by Magimac; 10-09-2007 at 08:31 PM.. It's a bit misleading of your dealer to say that BMW Canada 'limits the discounts'. In every ad you'll see 'retailers set actual prices', although I expect BMW issues guidelines. But what you dealer probably means is that, like every other manufacturer, BMW has squeezed the margins on new vehicles for the dealer way, way below what they used to be. Most of the money these days is made by pushing leases, etc.
As an aside, I got $6,000 off my 330i, but that was when the 335i was coming out, so it's not comparable to your situation.

I only got 2.76% off MSRP. I always get my bimmers from a small dealer that has less room to lower prices. OTOH I get 15% off parts and great service. After all I puschased 3 cars from them in less than 5 years. My E46 M3 was with no rebate off MSRP what so ever and my first car from them was my E46 330xi had 1.15% off MSRP.
Maybe some would consider me a sucker but I am comfortable with my transactions.

The discount one receives is heavily dependent on the options one orders.
The more options, the greater the discount. This is where the bulk of the dealers' markup takes place. |
