Arrow Lacquer problem - help!

Hi there,

I came out to my car yesterday and noticed that on the boot lid some of the lacquer appears to be missing and peeling away quite badly. See the picture below.

How do I fix this? It seems there is space underneath the edges and moisture has gotten in a little.

if the paint is shiny underneath it suggests the panel or adjacent panel has been repainted and the peeling one has not be keyed prior to the laquer being applied. not much you can do but have it re done

Just have it re-lacquered?

You'd have to remove all the old lacquer to repaint, which would be impossible.

Will need to be resprayed.

+1 on this! The only way is to repaint!

Poor workmanship on the respray before, how did you not notice this sooner, its gone from the edge inwards, probably taken a while too!

Probably where water has gotten under and the cold snap has caused the frost to lift the lacquer.

Might be cheaper to get a second hand boot lid tbh.

when a panel is damaged the painter will usually blend in panels or part panels adjacent to the repair, if the bootlid is one of the adjacent panels its possible its just been relaquered. I had this years ago a customer brought a 7 series bmw in for valeting when we steam cleaned it off the water got under the laquer on the rear wing and it came off in one sheet revealing a tiny repair on the top of the wing, the paint shop had just lacquered over the whole wing without keying it first.

Thanks for the posts so far guys. So it looks like a respray is needed then!

So far as I know it hasn't been resprayed. Recently had the car washed at a station (Usually do it myself but its been too darn cold!) Perhaps the kit they used lifted the lacquer or something.

Jetwash can lift lacquer, but there has to be a defect present in the first place.

If im looking at the picture right wouldn't a boot spoiler from the m3 cover most of that? I think I only paid 40 pounds for mine which I would imagine is a lot cheaper than getting the boot painted again. I had the same problem on my 130i, the bmw body shop said it was cause by a stone chip then water got under the clear coat.
