Which is the better set overall and for security?

Use option 1. I used them on my e36 and e46. I switched to option 1 way back when after stripping the key, more than once, for the McGard locks I was using.

Option 2 is the same style as the McGard lock, so I do not recommend them

Thanks! Wasnt sure of the difference really just the key style, or which is more reliable or secure.

Either one is going to provided added security, however you may have better luck running option one on aftermarket wheels, since the key goes into the center, rather than around the exterior of the lock.

I can take your wheel easily with either one. Hammer and socket with the first and the pro's have the master key sets.
