Question How to reset service intervals

Hi All,

I have the 2006 335i E90 and recently changed by spark plugs, about a 1000 miles ago in fact, but the car is telling me they now need to be changed. Also I just replaced the front pads and discs but the car tells me that these need changing in 2300 miles time.

I'm guessing something needs to be reset so could someone let me know what I need to do to resolve this.

Thanks.

I googled it when I did my brake pads. I think I pressed and held the BC button, then went through the options

I think these are the instructions I've used before - helpful for resetting the MOT reminder too:

Manual Reset Procedure

Step 1
Insert key into slot
Step 2
Press start/stop button without depressing clutch/brake and wait for the service reminder to dissapear.
Step 3
Immediately after service reminder goes out, press and hold the odometer reset. After 3 secs a warning triangle will appear, keep the odometer button pressed and after another 2-3 secs the Oil can will appear. If you hold it too long (10 secs in total) you will overshoot and some German writing will appear giving the software level/ can bus etc. of the car. Go back to the beginning and start again.
Step 4
You are now in the service menu, use the toggle switch on indicator stalk to scroll up/down through the various service items.
Step 5
When you have the item you want to reset showing, press the BC button on end of indicator stalk. Reset should now appear in the display. Press in and hold the BC button for 2-3 secs and a clock will start whirling around and then its done.
Step 6
You can now either scroll up/down to select another item (as in step 4) or you can press the start/stop button to exit.

Thanks for that. I googled it and found this thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=360476

The process worked for the spark plugs which now need to be replaced in 47000 miles apparently but when I went through the same process to reset the front brakes the mileage indicator now says ------- and the I drive screen tells me that my pads and discs which have just been replaced last week are warn out and need to be replaced by a BMW dealer asap.. ? anyone have any ideas I also get the picture of the red car on a jack in the dash display when I first put the key in.

Did you replace the brake pad sensors? If not then the CBS display will not reset the brake renewal mileage/time. I dont think that the CBS reports worn discs. Only pads.

I hadn't replaced that as the warning that the pads were worn out hadn't appeared yet. The only reason I changed the pads and discs was because the nearside inside pad had warn out so whilst replacing that I obviously replaced the complete set. The sensor on the front is on the offside inner pad and that wasn't warn to the limit so the sensor was ok so I just reused it..

As they don't cost that much I might just buy another one and change it over but I don't think that would make much of a difference.

Before I pressed the reset on the pads from the service menu the car was telling me that they needed changing in about 2300 miles time so I thought as I have just replaced both the pads and discs I should reset the service menu and that's when the idrive screen started telling me that the pads were now due to be replaced and I started to get the red car on a jack symbol in the dash. I also permanently have the (!) symbol in red on the dash which I'm guessing could be an issue during the MOT which is due by the 7th Jan..

I'm beginning to think I should have just left that service menu as it was..

Took my front wheel off today and found that the sensor had actually fell out of its point on the edge of the brake pad and had been hitting the wheel as I drove so had shattered the plastic casing around the sensor so that's why the car wouldn't reset the service interval.

After fitting a new sensor it sorted it out nicely.
