To buy it not to buy, opinions please!!
My stepmom was driving my pops 08 135i and got in a collision giving the car front end damage. Long story short they totaled it Cars a 2008 certified 135i that just kit 60k. Has frame damage but was brought to BMW and there quote to fix it was really high. The engines good as well as the interior is pretty mint besides the airbag and the headliner Bc of the airbag deploying. I can buy it from them for around 4k is it worth buying to either fix and have a toy or part out ? Thanks for the help

I had a similar incident when my wife crashed our 2001 ford focus. I bought it back and repaired it myself for half the cost; however, it only needed air bags, a wind shield, and seat belts. If you have a place to store the car and part it out then its worth it. Its a little bit of a commitment to pull the parts and ship them. I wouldn't expect to be able to repair the car. It's unlikely it would be profitable.

If the car was located on the west coast I might've been interested. Like the others have stated that seems like a decent price for the motor/trans. I would recommended you try to part them whole though. I parted out a Chev 3.8l one time gave up the supercharger and accessories and never did get rid of the block. I had to send it off for pennies as a core.

The price of parts at a body shop are high as they tend to mark it up. If you can find a good dealer, junkyard ,online or the forum part-out for parts you can save a lot of money.

Do you live in NY? If so you will have to put in new air bags since the state does not allow the installation of used ones from a donor car. This can easily hike the cost up by 2 to 3 grand. Just be aware that this car will most likely cost a small fortune in parts even if you do the labor yourself.

Your motor can probably, realistically, sell for around 3k or so and then it will be REALLY easy to make up the rest. I suggest you do it.
