Blending question
Hello all
So all you paint experts out there. In my efforts to avoiding a semi smashing me to pieces I had to swerve and went off into a ditch scraping of of those metal caution signs. Now structurally my cars fine. I just have this paint gash right above the fender lip. Well it's two places right above the lip and a inch to the right. So this gash goes clear through the base so assuming a body shop will need to bring the surrounding area down to the metal. Now my question is since the all sides of the fender are still intact no damage what so ever will the still need to blend with the hood? Or can the just blend the 6 inches they have left on both sides on the fender? I don't see why blending with the hood is needed if the upper portion of the fender is still factory paint. The fender itself isn't bent or damaged except for the paint chips and my moral. I'm planning on heading to a body shop this week just want to see what the community says first. Not trying to pay a cupple grand to fix this. That will slow down my f30 fund... Thanks peeps Phil |

No they wont have to touch the paint on the hood. Most body shops will paint the entire fender as blending is an art . . and is more difficult than painting the entire panel.

Yeah, I don't think they would have to blend something like that. I have a ding on my hood, when I got the quote for it, there was no need for blending. I also have another ding on my a-pillar, they would actually have to blend that one to the quarter panel. For the fact that, that panel was a lot bigger than the hood, they recommend blending it to keep pricing down versus painting the whole quarter panel to the end of the pillar.
