335i N54 Performance Exhaust Problem
Hi all.
I just had the BMW Performance Exhaust installed on my 2010 335i N54 sedan. Unfortunately, the exhaust is louder than I would like (and too loud for my family). I have the original exhaust still so I am deciding what to do. Outside of completely swapping back to the original exhaust, is there any way to sort of 'mix-and-match' components from the two exhausts to keep some of the performance parts but definitely reduce the noise level? Any other ideas to reduce the noise level? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I just have no idea personally. Really appreciate any advice you can provide. Thanks! |

I'm no expert but probably not. It's one or the other but you should have no problem selling the Performance Exhaust if you decided to unload it for a reasonable price.

u have a sedan so that means u have resonators already i believe. if you don't have catless downpipes then there is nothing u can really do lol. except go back to stock or the 335is exhaust. or just do the golf tee mod on your stock exhaust to make a little louder. and then of course sell me ur performance exhaust for a discount as a thanks for the advice =)

Could try putting the midpipe resonator back on. That would definitely help quiet it down a lot.
Not sure you want to chop up your exhaust but that would give you a much quieter sound with the same tone from the PE as you'd be eliminating the x-pipe. |

I got a lot of sh*t in another thread (from people who didn't think it was necessary or worth the price) by recommending this product but, if you're like me, and don't like crude DIY mods AND you decide to give up the Performance Exhaust and go back to stock, you might want to consider the ExhaustMeister kit which simulates the Golf Tee Mod (for a price) and allows you to open and close the exhaust flap in your stock exhaust by remote control. You can find info about it here: http://www.exhaustmeister.com/produc...35i-2007-2010/ When I did this with my stock 335i exhaust, I got a really nice low level tone/resonance that is very subtle but nicer than w/the flap closed, which is it most of the time because the flap is programmed to open around 3k rpms and if you drive "normally" the engine will almost never exceed 3k rpms, which is why the car is so quiet unless you floor it. You can read about my experience with the product and the generally negative reaction of other people about it here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...exhaustmeister Just something else to consider if you decide to go back to stock and, if you decide it's not worth it to you, you can just unplug the flap switch or stick a golf tee in the vacuum tubing to do the same for nothing. Your choice. Last edited by SSW; 01-09-2014 at 04:19 PM.. |

If you did not touch anything else than swapping back is your only option pretty much like others said.
On te other hand, with the stock exhaust, you can do a second cat delete and golf tee mode, should be in the middle between the two exhausts ![]() |

Yes, it was directed at the OP. I was just using your golf tee reference as the take off point. I added a "To the OP" reference to the prior post to clarify.

If you want a little more sound without it being too loud try the golf tee mod with your stock exhaust. Even though it's a little late, but if you go back to stock, then try it. It takes 15 seconds.

Just curious...how long have you had it on there? If not long, maybe try it for a bit longer and maybe...just maybe you'll fall in love with it. It will of course sound really loud at first compared to what you and your family are used to. Just a thought.
I had it on my e92 335i and now will have it on my e90 335i. The sound is intoxicating to me...in a good way ![]() And if all else fails, you can EASILY sell it on this forum. I've noticed it's one of the quickest items to sale here. The money you get back, I'd consider the 335is exhaust as someone else mentioned. Still great sporty throaty tone, but not quite as loud. Less $$$ too than the PE. GL.
