Warranty Story

Purchased a MY10 240d in September, low mileage, serviced since new by dealer in Wollongong.
One fine day, three months later, a loud bang from the rear upon light braking at 25kmh. A passenger found a sheared off bolt on the roadway, looking for something I may have run over. Roadside assist arrives within an hour (Sunday), finds the offside rear calliper resting on the bottom of the wheel, arranges for a trailer.
North Shore BMW investigates, finds that a brake service done by Wollongong dealer 18 months prior was not done as per BMW service specifications. That dealer will now to pay for the repairs and the loan car, parts alone $5000, some having to come from Germany.

I had seven days left on the three year factory warranty when this happened.

I am not suggesting that dealer service is a must, but if the scheduled services were done by an outside mechanic, I wonder how this would have panned out. Of course, the brake service may not have been dodgy in the first place.....
Do I live a charmed life or what ?
