The carlube oil guide I have reckons 75W90 fully syn, 1.3L of it. Any good automotive parts supplier should be able to sort you out, just make sure its fully syn and not the regular part syn.

May as well do the diff whilst your at it, that takes 1L.

Thanks!
My mechanic told me that a bmw garage will not change gear box oil coz its sealed and the correct oil is vital, he told me to get audi oil.

From my view that can't be true. Its a gearbox, nothing special. Yes it is designed to work with the correct gear oil but its not exactly hard to get hold of the right stuff.

Unfortunately Audi oil doesn't exactly narrow it down for you but what I said previously will do the job nicely. You could use part syn oil but the gear changes won't feel as smooth and it may degrade the synchro rings at a higher rate than with fully syn.

Good point. I was referring to a manual box.

Diff takes the same oil as a manual gearbox, i.e 75W90.

Audi recommend 75w90 GL4 for gearboxes and 70w90 GL5 for diff's GL5 having a higher shear tolerance.

any of these oils will be reet:

Sorry but this is incorrect. Gearbox oil = 75W-80, diff oil = 75W-90. Putting 75W-90 in the gearbox will mean stiff/baulking changes on cold mornings...
