I thought you were the one with four cracked EGR cooler, but obviously I am wrong.

As I remember reading here there is a sizable temperature difference on the twos sides of the EGR cooler and that may contribute to it's failure.
Also, I remember there are wild swings in coolant temperature if the cooler is removed.

What else is typically done when the intake is replaced? I was told that my intake may "need" to be replaced by my SA.

There has been some feedback that removing the cooler will cause issues with the cooling system. It's not obvious to me why this would happen with our US version. But I'll report back either way.
I forgot to report back ...

The EGR cooler has been taken out of the system. No issues regarding unusual coolant behavior. It does take a bit longer to come up to temp in the cold weather, but covering the radiator openings still allows it to come up to temp and maintain temp even at 0F (the coldest weather experienced so far following the mod).

I suppose the 535d (*cough* 530d) would be a suitable replacement but the 5 series doesn't do anything for me.

I want to keep my 335d forever but it'll most likely get replaced when the warranty expires... Audi A6 TDI gets better MPG and is even quicker, despite being a bit down on power. The 8-speed gearbox makes up for a lot.

Update - Supposedly getting my car back tomorrow. BMWNA may be offering some compensation for time in the shop. It had been there for nearly 3 mo. cumulatively since September. I can't wait to pick it up! Considering the carbon build up was thick maybe it will have regained some lost power.

Didn't get my car back yet. Check engine light came on in the loaner this morning. No idea what it was but it was in limp mode.

I took it in and they put me in in a new 328d. My initial impression is the handling doesn't feel as crisp as the gasser. I also feel significant vibration in the cabin. I don't remember the 335d having that much vibration. Getting 35 mpg on my normal commute (got 28 in the 335d). Acceleration feels much slower than the 328i. My next car definitely won't be a 328d.

Your car is in the shop for a SES light and the loaner must go in the shop because of SES light also.

Either you have a terrible bad luck or the BMW brand is not very reliable.

That's pretty much it. They'll give you a brand new air intake manifold most likely caused by swirl flap/carbon buildup issues.

Any updates?

2 months?! If that happened to me man I'd be visiting your beautiful province of Quebec as I tacked on the clicks to my loaner.

Got my car back yesterday! Really missed it. I put 60 miles on it just driving around aimlessly. I think I will have to part with it, but driving it again makes that decision so difficult.

Thinking about getting the Leaf.

+1. The i8 is cool and all but I'd rather be realistic (not gonna win the lottery anytime soon) and get a tried and true P85+.
