CBS - strange oil change information

I purchased a '10 E92 328i with 30K miles back in April, 2013. Had an oil change at the dealer in June, but the CBS still says it's due for an oil change in 15,000 miles. If I recall correctly, after the oil change, it said it was due in 23,000 miles.

This is the 2nd BMW I purchased with relatively low mileage with a wacky CBS regarding oil changes.

Two questions:
1. Is this normal?
2. If I change the oil myself, is there a thread that shows how to reset the CBS?

Thank you very much.

Yes it is normal and yes there is a way to reset the info center. I went on YouTube and found out how to reset it. I change mine every 6000 miles.

Up to 186,000 miles the CBS collects oil quality data from the sensor in the oil pan that also measures the oil level. The oil quality data is used as one of the several data inputs to an algorithm that calculates the estimated oil change interval (OCI). As the car collects data, it will adjust the OCI sometimes drastically early on after the last oil change. The OCI is calculated somewhat also on the car's previous use. Since you bought the car and the oil change was performed when you bout it, it is probably adjusting to your use of the car, which is different than the last owner.

That said, most people here don't follow BMWs CBS OCI schedule and change it at an arbitrary point or 7,500 miles (half of the supposed 15,000).

15k is about normal but it can be longer or shorter based upon several variables.

I change it every 6-7k miles ( once a year), just reset cbs every time and don't worry what it says.
