There is no specific set time in law to reject a car, and actually the dealer should be given an opportunity to rectify the problem to your satisfaction.

However, the longer you keep and use the car the more the dealer can argue that you have "accepted" it.

Personally I have always acted within two week of purchase. Always advise in writing that you are rejecting the car, the reason, and your preferred outcome. Either return the car to the dealer (ensuring that they accept responsibility for its safe keep) or, if the dealer in a long distance away, confirm that the vehicle is no longer in use and detail the mileage.

For what it's worth I successfully rejected a used car because the service history was not as advertised.

You could ring the BMW premium rate phone number and ask them for a list/dates of visits the car has had to main dealers - if they dont have a record of the "questionable service" that will cement your argument that the car didnt have it - no OBC reset, no stamp and no central database record is almost concrete evidence that it didnt happen

The phone number is 0906 209 0001 - the call usually lasts max 2 or 3 mins and you just need the car's registration no to hand
