My e92 custom audio boot install
Chaps.. I am stuck between two options .. Any pics or ideas be good before I pull the trigger on my final design would be great.
Current setup - It's Not working for me as set up isn't looking pretty + I have sold one off the JL HD 750/1 for a JL 1000/1v2. 1. Sub facing out as per current set up, however rather than side mounted amps, I could have the JL 1000/1v2 amp on the boot floor - via false floor.. And entire boot custom retrimmed. This would be preferred as I won't lose the sound say when I'm at the shows. But I can't decide if I should keep the same box and save immense costs or re position the sub.. 2. Ski hatch install... Optimal for SQ but may greatly reduce the output when I crank it up at the shows... Although Some will argue how many shows will one attend (I will say most to all this year).. Pros to this is I can do some nice Perspex layout to show rear of the sub and retrim whole boot plus I do love the look of subs seen through ski hatch. Also increased SQ. Cons - loss of bass when bootlid open... 12w7 could be an overkill for in cabin but who knows... Decisions decisions... Quick pic of the current layout!! Can anyone post up their pics with set ups or suggest some ideas? Ta Last edited by AWBimmer; 01-31-2014 at 07:26 AM.. |

If you want SPL setup, same setup as you have but ported enclosure as per recommendations of the JL.
If you want balance b/w SQ+SPL, go for the corner enclosure. Forget the ski hatch as advised earlier. That is not your cup of tea.

AWBimmer if you want solid dropping bass with depth stick with ski hatch design you wont regret it.
I also advise do not play your sub woofer with your boot open as you are unloading the energy from the cone of the sub woofer which would damage or even rip the voice coil. Hopefully by summer I should have my build sorted which will be the entire boot running 2 x 12" sub woofers in a 27hz tuned box built by team vxin car (Richard Duong) off a Sundown 1500d amp powered by 2 x 120ah leisure batteries

I'd love to get another JL 12w7 ae3 but they are rare 2nd and very pricey new lol. Reason I asked about playing it with An open boot is that clearly facing sub out wards and playing music will be a lot more audible than them facing through the ski hatch... Plus the ski hatch won't get much of a visual so is there any point getting another 12 sub... Aside JL which has just marketed themselves so well, who else will you recommend? I'll admit I am brainwashed with JL audio when it comes to subwoofers, so any help - goes a long way. Thank you and good luck with ur install! Get some pics up when you're done with it |
