Calling all space grey owners
Looking at a couple of options for my next car and a nice space grey e60 has popped up. Is it easy to clean and does it show up scratches well. Pros cons welcome. Really wanted another Le Mans blue one but they are quite rare.

Space Grey here, and it is an easy color for, how to say it, longer than wanted intervals between cleanings. My wife uses it as a daily driver, nurse, sometimes night shifts, so yea, it gets cleaned about every 7-10 days, doesn't get too bad for a dark color.
We were looking at a black one, yea, right, test drive, came back and it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a week. Love black, not for this family. Our last E46 was white, the best looking color for not washing regularly, you can go a month easy. My daily is a big Ram Diesel, silver, also a good color for not showing dirty, just personally really sick of silver vehicles. REcap, the space grey is an easy color to keep clean and it doesn't look too bad after long intervals... CHeers, BTW, my wife is English! |

Doesn't hide scratches any better than any other paint!
It's not the colour that shows scratches it's the difference in depth! They look awful if the scratches is primer thickness as a white/light grey colour stands out on it! My good ladies has a scratch on the bootlid from a cat sliding across it, looks terrible! |

After owning numerous Silver cars, I decided to go for Space Grey, and do not regret it at all. It looks amazing when the sun hits it and really suits the E92 chassis imo. It hides swirls quite well (unlike black) and suprisingly, stone chips are also more difficult to see (probably because the primer underneath is grey too. Stone chips can also be easily touched in, without it standing like a sore thumb. I've touched in one or two in mine and honestly, I find it difficult to find them when I wash it now. Touching up stonechips on a silver makes your car look like its got an acne problem.
IMO, its easy to maintain and looks stunning - go for it ![]() |

+1 Just gone from Le Mans Blue to Space Grey and as I'm up and down the motorways I find Space Grey so much easier to not be offended by the dirt on it! At 52k miles and unless you were really inspecting it you'd think it had done half that.
Nothing beats Le Mans Blue though (IMO); all polished up on a dusky evening it looks like the car's made of blue stained glass. |

Funny, the other car we were looking at when we bought out space grey was lemans blue, I see one once in a while and wonder if we made the right decision. Love that blue. (The blue car had about 8k more miles, and was very slightly modded) so we walked and picked the space grey.
Very happy with the color for sure, and didn't realize the primer was grey also, so if there are rock chips and deep scratches, as previously stated, it might be even a better choice. Cheers Last edited by MandMs335Msport; 02-02-2014 at 10:32 AM.. Reason: bad, bad, grammar |

Hey mate, I use Chipex or Halfords touch up stick, depending on the intensity of the chip. I'm managed to get amazing results using either of them.

I've found the Space Grey to be really good at holding a shine - it seems to respond really well to the Dodo Juice stuff, Rainforest Rub brings it up brilliantly, as does Orange Crush believe it or not. I keep mine topped up with Megs UQD and it's a great look.
I think it hides the dirt really well, looks great most of the time, instead of just some of the time with other colours - lots of depth beneath the surface and I've had some great results using Scratch X 2.0 on various light marks. Go for it ![]() |
