Oil leak toward back of engine and near oil filter

Hi,

My girlfriend has a 320i (auto) 2011 model. I've noticed near the oil filter there is a film of oil around the housing. Also towards the back of the engine there is
a small puddle of oil. I've attached pics for clarity. Anyone know the specific problem and parts to change and also the approximate price?

Car has 22000km on it

thanks

Looks like it needs a new oring for the filter and a valve cover gasket replacement.

Dunno if you have the same problem as I did but my oil leak with the same motor was because of the cam cover gasket. Fixed that and no more leak. It was a very slow leak though, only noticed it after not driving the car for ages and I could smell it after turning the car on.

Why do BMW engines start to leak oil at about 100k km whereas Japanese engines don't?

That's what i had always wondered also, I have never had an oil leak in any of my jap cars i have owned (well i recently bought a 14 year old mitsubishi fagna daily beater that has valve covers leaking but hey it is 14 years old)

I'm certain BMW engineer leaks into their gaskets, so that after 2-3 years they start spilling their guts!!!

The same can be said with ducatis v's the jap bikes! My mate had an 1198 that had around 4 gaskets replaced within 2 years, fortunately my aprilia has been leak free

Probably be oil filter housing gasket and likely a leak in vacuum pump, look it up its a common leak in the 320i. Have a feel at the back of the engine there should be a pump with a hose connected to it a the bottom if you feel oil at the bottom of pump then that's it. If not then it's your rocker gasket.

Thanks for the input everyone. The missus found out she's still got 3 months warranty left on the car so i'll leave it to Mr BMW to fix it.

On a related note, my car (335i e92) seems to have some sort of residue and built up dirt on the hose under the air filter box and the (i think) intercooler pipe thats just below the snorkel kind of next to the oil filter housing. Im not sure what the residue/wetness is but does not seem to be oil. Any ideas? I've have attached pics of both the areas in questions
