325i brake question
I noticed recently that when my car is cold the brakes seem to stick slightly. I notice it when I come to a stop and then let my foot off the brake and the car doesn't move ( it's an auto ) there is like a delay then the car sets of and you hear the dunt of the brakes letting off. I took the car a short drive and there is no pulling to the side when braking or accelerating, no strange noises and mpg is also still as normal. After the drive I jacked the car up and all 4 wheels spin freely.
Kinda puzzled with this. As I say it only happens when the car is cold.

I think its the "initial bite" of the bmw brake pads that makes it 'seem' that way, because it feels that way occasionally to me as well. Like when letting off the brake pedal you can actually feel it let go when your slowly take your foot off the brake pad.

could be the hill-brake feature. My car does the same thing, most noticeable on inclines though. it will hold the brake for maybe a second or so after releasing the brake.

sounds like your pistons may not be retracting. i'd check brake fluid, grease in the caliper guide pins, any corrosion.

Today I Replaced all 4 rotors, pads and thoroughly cleaned all callipers applying anti seize to the appropriate areas and cleaned and greased slide pins. I tested the car and I can still feel the sticking but I did notice that it only happens when on an incline so I guess it must be some kind of hill start assist. Oh well it was badly needing new rotors anyway so one less thing to worry about !
