So with the alternate car you spend nothing? And the difference is 3 to 5 k?
C'mon...

I am yet to find one person to confirm with facts that cost of ownership of 335d is the best on its class and justify the buy.
All of us bougth one because of the v8 like torque, plain and simple.

And for most people driving a 335d, fuel economy is a real issue
Interesting. So it was not the cost of fuel that was the problem, it was the inconvenience of having to stop and buy the fuel…

Fortunately for you, M3s are universally recognized as awesome commuter cars. There is nothing better for droning up and down the freeway where you will really take advantage of all the M3 has to offer. (Don't forget your driving gloves!) And they are super awesome high mileage cars because they require no maintenance.

I could see how the e92 M3 was a "waste of time" for you but you consider the new M3 is the ideal car for racking up the commuter miles.

Huh? I spent $5k per year on fuel in the last car, so fuel savings are $2k per year.

Obviously, that's not completely true. That helped sell the car for me, but if it got 335i freeway mileage, the d would be on the lot and the i in my garage.

Using this rationale, Buy a civic an save 10k/y on depreciation dollars. Plus another 1k in fuel.

Wait until you try to sell your car to see how much you saved overall. Or keep it and good luck with maintenance bills.

Do not misunderstand me. I own a D too. Fun car, but do not fool yourself. It was never the best decision costwise. This is why only 26k were sold in 3 years. Phenomenal car but very expensive to own.

Obviously not the best decision cost wise, a 90s civic would have been smarter, but the idea that mileage didn't play a part in anyones decision is complete nonsense.
