Time for some suspension

First a caveat - I've never put aftermarket suspension on any of the cars I've owned, as all of my attention has gone into putting power under the hood. The 2010 E92 is the first that feels worthy of the $$ spent.

With that said, I want to drop the car about an inch on both front and back, but I want to retain as close to OEM ride as possible. I was on the freeway a week ago and was next to a slammed BMW and the poor car was bouncing every time it hit a seam in the pavement.

One of the big reasons I purchased the E92 is the ride quality. So my question is which aftermarket suspension vendor will let me lower the car and retain as much of the OEM ride quality as possible? OEM ride quality to me means comfort. Sharper handling will be a bonus, but comfort is first in my book.

TIA.

Here's the car as it sits today.

umm... don't lower?

I'm not an expert, just someone who reads as many suspension related threads as possible. You might serve yourself well to do some searching and reading here, there is plenty.

In a nutshell, my take (as a reader) is: lower means less comfort, unless you find some coilovers. If someone claims a non-coilover setup retains oem comfort, keep reading and ask them again after they've had them for 30-40k miles. Lowering springs will reduce suspension travel and if your roads aren't perfect you will feel it. And they may shorten the life of your shocks / struts. Most aftermarket shock / spring setups that lower come with a firmer ride.

good luck, glad you like the car enough to invest in it.

I dropped mine on HR sport springs and can't imagine driving a car without it.

Comfort is defined by the driver. I love a responsive suspension that I can feel a pebble under while most thing it's too aggressive or stiff.

What do you want the car to drive like? I would figure that out first before decided what you want it to look like (lowered).

Leave it alone if comfort is your #1 priority.

If you want to get even remotely close to stock comfort, you will need to go to a full coil over setup or spring + shock/strut. Just using springs will make the car ride harsher as the oem shocks/struts are not meant to keep up with the aftermarket spring rates. It would be helpful to know if you have a budget you are trying to stay within.

Also remember that comfort is an extremely subjective goal and your idea of comfort might change over time!
