Aftermarket charge pipe and CPO warranty

Anyone have experience with an aftermarket CP and CPO warranty? Im running JB4 stage 2 only and removing it before maintenance visits (haven't had any issues with the car yet *knocks on wood). Looking to upgrade the charge pipe for a peace of mind but worried about possible warranty issues. Searched the threads but all that came up was 20 pages of stock charge pipes exploding

I always leave my CP in when i take it to the dealer. Never had a problem. I take the JB4 and intake off before taking it in but the CP doesn't harm anything or can't potentially harm anything I should say so they can't really blame it if something is wrong with your car.

Probably also depend on the dealer though...

Thanks for the response. I do agree it can't really harm anything if installed properly but sometimes these guys look for anything....

Any reason you take off the intake specifically?

It sometimes throws a mass airflow sensor shadow code because it sucks more air and I could see them trying to use that against me. Plus it literally takes 3 minutes to swap it out with the stock airbox so it's kind of a no brainer

Leave the chargepipe on and take the jb4 off. The aftermarket chargepipe is not a flimsy piece of plastic.

If your taking off the Jb4 then you might as well take off the chargepipe. I personally wouldnt give them a reason to not cover you. Also every time your car does get inspected during an oil change or whatever they take note of anything that is not stock on your vehicle.

My chargepipe is still holding strong. I've been running the JB4 for about a year. Well idk if it's strong, but it hasn't blown

Wow guess I'm lucky here, I made friends with a lead tech and SA and I leave everything on my car for service including the JB4. I just put it in bypass mode. They even come to the 1/4mi track from time to time. They said if anything breaks just make sure I restore it to factory before bringing it in.

It's not the charge pipe itself that they would blame if anything happens in the future, but they would come to the conclusion that if you have an aftermarket charge pipe, it's because your car is tuned and running more boost. I guess it just depends on the dealer. I'm on the same boat as you, I want to mod more, but I don't want to mess with my warranty.

FWIW I am going to be leaving my charge pipe and OCC on the car. Neither could cause any type of failure. I will be taking the JB4 off though.

It really just depends on the dealer.
Some will void your warranty. Otherwise will ask you to remove it if you want any warranty work done.
Others don't care.

This goes for any aftermarket modification.

Talk to your service adviser on the side and ask them how they feel about modifications to your car in the future. Feel them out.
If they seem comfortable and friendly about it then you know what to do. If they are real by the book then you know what your dealing with.

My dealer used to insist on me getting a tune and modifications for my car. I still removed stuff beforehand though but at the same time I knew they were very lenient.

There is also one thing worth mentioning and that is dealers sometimes get in trouble for doing too much warranty work and not being strict enough. Timing is everything. I worked at a dealer for 4 years and the corporate side really pushed us to make sure warranty work was legitimate and at that point the techs and service advisers had to really crack down for a few months.

Honestly doubt they'll flip over a charge pipe. You're only improving the reliability of the engine by making sure the boost doesn't blow up the factory charge pipe. I have yet to run into a service adviser that won't honor warranty work on an aftermarket part that has absolutely zero to do with the failure of something unrelated or improves the service life of an engine.

If they say no to you're after market charge pipe, they might as well say that K&N panel filters will void the warranty. That would be utterly ridiculous.

I didn't bother to read the other replies you got so I'm sure this has been said but.. They have to prove that your cp is the cause of what goes wrong if something fails.. also it's worth noting that having a cp might attract attention to your car while they work on it and you never know they might check your car out. so just don't forget to clear your dme shadow codes or whatever else is necessary
