Problems with headlight..one headlight brighter than the other.

I have a 2006 330xi with aftermarket depo head lights.
Left low beam is brighter than right as well as high beam. Two nights ago high beam stopped working just leaving my halos on. Due to my understanding previous owner said a wire was cut and he took it to a mechanic and he had to absorb power from left to right because left was not working at all. Whats the cause of this? I also want to switch LCI headlights (clear corners). If I do get them will I have the same problem?
