Wanted: Your tire reviews..

Hey guys, I'm currently reviewing tires for the spring when my Volk's come in. I'm looking for some good rubber for the wheels with 235 fronts and 265 rears.

The tire review from caranddriver.com was a great place to start. I've also looked at personal reviews on the tirerack site.

So far, I have narrowed it down to three tires:

Goodyear F1 GS-D3
Michelin PS2
Dunlop SP Sport

I would have put S03's but they are very scary in the rain. I had them on my s2000 a few years ago and it was not fun when the ground was wet.

What are some tires that people have been very pleased with in the past? I will NOT be going RunFlat.

Yaajer, I will be getting the gsd3's again. I liked them alot and they are GRIPPY in the rain! Almost as sticky as when dry! Real quite too! If price wasn't a concern, I would've went with the ps2's, but they are very close in specs and more than $300 cheaper per set. I never had the SP Sport, but I did run the SP 9000 and the gsd3's were head and shoulders better!

Nice.

HRC, are you doing 235/265 front and rear? Any thoughts on 275 rears?

Yea, I'm going with 235f and 265r. I want to stay as close to stock OD as possible. 275 would be too big of difference over stock. I don't want to lose too much performace by increasing the OD.

I'm not sure what was wrong with your SO3's but the set I had on my M Roadster were amazing. I had a similar stagger as my E90 225-45 in front, 255-40 rears on the stock 17 inch roadstars. I would go as far to say that the wet handling was almost as good as the dry. Your post is the first I have ever seen about poor wet handling of the SO3. Even Tire Rack gives it a Superior rating across the board.

But if you are really against them, the F1 seems to be popular with the track crowd around here.

I used to have a set of ps2's on my previous e46 330ci and i have to say they are the stickiest tires i've ever came across. Softer and grippier then ps1's and better looking too! The only tires i've had were ps1's and ps2's for my bmw's so i cannot say that they are better then the F1's. My friend lives and swears by the F1's and tells me it is way better then the ps1's he used to have. Im sure ps2 or F1's should be good. I can only imagine how grippy the F1 would be in rain if it is rated better then the ps2's. I am actually considering the F1's for my next set for the value. (Ps2's just leave toooo big of a dent in your wallet) Let me know what tire you ended up going with. Good luck.

What is the width of the wheels you're putting these on?
