Polishing headlight with clear coat on it (Supplies?)

Someone had sprayed clear coat on my one headlight (previous owner), and while there isn't really anything else wrong with it, I figured there's a chance I can make it look good again and avoid buying a new headlight. My question is, what would some of you recommend as far as supplies/procedure? I was thinking starting with 600 grit wetsand, and work up to 2000. Then hit it with the polisher, but from here I'm not sure what kind of pads or compounds to use.

How much clear coat is on there? Wet-sanding would work but test a small area first. For polishing, you can start with a more abrasive one (G-1000 polish/G-1500 polish) then work your way up with to a finer one (G-2500 polish). As for pads, I would recommend a heavy cutting one (Detail Addict Orange CCS heavy cutting 4" Pad) with either the G-1000 or G-1500. Finish it off with a Detail Addict White Polishing CCS 4" Pad with G-2500. You can do it by hand but it will take quite longer compared to a polisher.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I'd be happy to help!

There doesn't seem to be too much, it's actually beginning to flake off on the corner and looks as though someone scuffed it (the lens) already for the clear to adhere. I should be able to make this look good as new right?

There's no way it'll look the same as if you were to replace it with a new one but it sure will look a whole lot better. Do you have a picture of it by the way? I can help you out more if I can see what the condition is like.
