That price is on the fairly expensive side. Depending on how many step correction you are trying to get, the price will vary. With the JB paint being as soft as it is. The most amount of correction you should need is a 2 step. Depending on the condition of your paint, a 1 step might even suffice. Based on this quoted price, I believe he is charging you for a wheels off 2+ step polish for around $600 + another $600 for the coating. Pretty steep, but if this guy is an authorized Cquartz dealer, it's a peace of mind thing you are paying for. If done correctly, a 2 step + cquartz will take 12-15 hours.

The price being acceptable is totally subjective. I would prod around for a better deal since I believe this price to be on the higher end of the spectrum. I would also investigate into their preparation procedures and exactly how many steps of paint correction will be performed.
Coating package usually includes the following: -wash -clay/decontamination -paint correction (1-3 step) -removal of polish oils -coating A few things you may consider questioning is as follows: Washing: Will the wheels be removed to do a "Wheels Off" detail? because for $600, I am expecting A LOT. Claying/decontamination: Do they only clay or do they also do a chemical decon? with a chemical decon, this will drive up the price. but we all know that iron x cost $20 a bottle and we will maybe use 1/4 of that bottle to decon the car. The cost in this is mainly labor, not much either. Paint Correction: How many steps? 1? 2? 3? more??? With many compounds on the market that are able to finish down to damn near ready for a wax or last step product, you will be able to get an extremely high correction rate with something like Menzerna FG400 and still have an amazing finish. Typically a 1 step correction will yield 50-70% correction. A 2 step will yield 70-95%. Your numbers should be on the higher side due to the extremely soft nature of your paint. This is where you need to decide how much correction you want. Coating Prep: What do they use to clean the paint from any left over polishing oils? IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol), Eraser? Panel cleaner? Coating: Most coatings can be applied to windows as well, will they be applying them to the windows, mirrors? Maybe you want to consider coating your rims as well. As for Opticoat or Cquartz. Opticoat is said to last the lifetime of your car, which is absolute BS, however, some people have reported up to 5 years of durability. Now are these people total detail junkies that maintain the hell out of their cars? Probably. Cquartz is advertised for 2 years of durability, which by all means is not BS at all. I personally like Cquartz. It is everything opticoat is besides the lifetime guarantee they claim, but it feels much more slick than opticoat. Many people dislike opticoat because of its not so slick feel. Last edited by PTek Will; 01-22-2014 at 06:07 PM.. |

I'm going to assume that guys name was Will? He really seems to like that cquartz stuff. I haven't really done research on it, but he was soft selling it to me during on a taillight project that he worked with me on.
Assuming we are talking about the same guy, him and his sister work together and I can tell you that they are super professional and meticulous. Regardless of whether or not you opt for cquartz, dude (and sister) seem to know their way around detailing. |

That is pretty steep, but as say_oh_shin said, if it's those same people I would have no problem paying that much. They do some FINE work!

That's a lot of money....honestly if you have any time, get a porter cable and some polish and see what you can do yourself for $200, before dropping $1200.

$1.2k is a lot but not unheard of. We've done plenty in that range. HOWEVER, I always ask the customer first, CAN they maintain the car after. Then on top of that, does the car even have enough paint to be worked on. If it's just coating, that's a bit. But with correction, it's not out of the world.

Wills will be doing my Montego Blue E93 towards the end of Feb. Price quoted was comparable to yours. I'll post before/after pics when he gets it done. He and Dani do some amazing work.
ETA: Here's a link to a few pics of the job they did from his Google+ page....I'll post more when he gets them up. I was quite pleased. https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/1...64718975779991
