or don't buy it at all... i've never leapt out of my chair to run and call the cops when i hear a car alarm going off, and i doubt many people do, so it's probably not going to do much good. but i also rarely park my car on the street or anything else unsecured.

I completely understand the OP. I have never had a car that included pre-wiring but not hook it up. I did, however, pay my dealer to hook it up (@$700). I like hearing the chirp when I lock the doors.

Also, lo-jack would not be necessary because since the OP is ordering the premium package it comes with BMW Assist. If your car is stolen, they can track it and communicate with the police to recover it. additionally, no one can start the car without the key, it can't be hot-wired.

In my opinion alarms are just annoying because no one pays attention to them. but if you derive some peace of mind because your car has one, then more power to you.

I believe Lojack and BMW assist are two different technologies. BMW assist tries to find the car using satellite signals. If the car is in a parking garage or packed up into a shipping container the BMW assist may not work. Also, theives can disable it easily because the unit is in the same place on all cars. Lojack uses a transmitter hidden somewhere in the car (different location for each car). It uses FM radio frequency and can be picked up easier through walls and such. I had this discussion today at the dealership and decided to get the Lojack even though I have the BMW assist. I skipped the alarm though, noone ever pays attention to a car alarm anymore. All people think is, would someone turn off that damn alarm!

like it or not. can't do anything about it.
worst of all, it doesn't even have shock sensors. the alarm wouldn't go on even if ur windows get broken into

The interior motion sensor on mine works well. Reached in to grab my glasses w/ window open, alarm went off.

Had mine installed for $470 by the dealer. You can purchase on your own for $250-$300, then you'll need to pay the dealer 2 hours for programming. At $90/hour, I thought I got a good deal.
