polishes, sealants, AIO opinions needed
looking to refresh my detailing supplies and wanted some opinions. I have PBW ssr 2.5 and 1 for paint correction but need some finishing products to use after that. i tested those on out my car when i first got it before winter but only had PBW polish w/sealant and natty's blue wax to top it off. not to familiar with glazes either but would that be a good option to really make the lmb paint pop? also looking for a good AIO product to use before waxing when i don't have the day to spend detailing. my pbw polish w/sealant is almost empty and wanted to see what other products people have experience with. i was looking at some AIO options that will help with some minor paint imperfections like klasse and megiuars. I've also been using black pad with the pbw polish w/sealant. would it be better to use a white pad with that or any similar AIO products when that is the only step i'll be doing?
some before and after pics of salty car compared to a nice wash with the pbw polish w/sealant. almost like how it looks before i applied dodo juice purple haze. purple haze seemed to almost dull it down a bit in direct sun. the last pic of the rear end was the only photo i got before my phone died. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Looks like you have the process down and I'd be happy to suggest some supplies.
For the finishing polishes, you can probably try out Meguiar's M205 or Menzerna SF4500. I'm not sure how M205 compares to the PBW 1 but I've found it a great finishing polish. The SF4500 should surely give you great, glossy results as a finishing polish. I don't use glazes much but I've had great results with Chemical Guys Black Light as a quick AIO. I also liked using Optimum GPS as an AIO, but mainly use Sonax NTPC as an AIO product. Finally, yes I would recommend using a more aggressive pad with the AIO because it will slightly correct the paint rather than just apply the AIO and count on just that for that slight improvement. Depending on the paint, I have used Lake Country's Crimson, White and sometimes the Tangerine pads with an AIO to spruce up the paint a bit more. Hopefully that helps get you going! Ivan @ DI |

I tell everyone how great Blackfire Wet Diamond is for a sealant. It lasts months even in the Arizona sun and looks great with metallic paint (in my opinion). Oh and try not to let the price shock you because a little goes a long way.

I typically use the Porter Cable 7424xp polisher with a blue Lake Country pad. Removal is done by hand with a microfiber towel.
It can surely be done by hand, but the polisher makes it a lot quicker and easier. |

I just purchased that polisher, but with just orange and white pads. Should I hold out for new pads?

It really depends on the type/color of paint your have as sometimes you can use a more aggressive pad even with a wax or sealant to lightly polish the paint. However, I'd say the white pad is just a bit too aggressive/firm for spreading sealant, so I would suggest getting a finer pad, such as blue or crimson from Lake Country.

i was actually looking at blackfire before to. i was looking at the Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish to use before a sealant and the Blackfire Total Polish and Seal as a AIO. i was also looking into chemical guys jet-seal as a sealant, any review/experience using that? theres just so many products, makes this process so hard deciding on what to get...looking for the really nice wet-metallic-glossy look
DetailedImage, would using the Sonax NTPC as and AIO remove any other waxes or sealants that are previous on the car since it is a paint cleaner? and im assuming the blue pad i have should be used for the sealants only. any other ideas how to remove extremely hard water stains off my windows? Just to point out it can be done by hand, I don't bust out the PC and it goes on very easy - it's thin so it's easy to spread, and buffs out easy too. But I do probably use more product than if I used the PC.

As for Sonax NTPC as an AIO, yes you can expect it to remove almost anything (wax/sealants, not coatings), but it depends on how you're using it. If there's a fresh coat of wax/sealant on the paint and you go over it quickly with the NTPC with light pressure, you may not thoroughly remove it. At the same time, I wouldn't recommend it used over another wax/sealant because you'll never really be sure if/when it's removing it since the protection from the NTPC will be what you're feeling and seeing. Plus, there's always a possibility of running into issues with the products not working well together and you getting some smearing, etc. I've had great results with NTPC applied/used even over weeks old wax, but it's not something I would recommend. Lastly, if the water spots/stains on your windows are that bad, you'll probably have to utilize some polishing on there. I have good luck with CarPro Ceriglass Glass Polish for such stuff, usually used just with a foam or microfiber pad, but you can also try some regular paint compounds. A more aggressive option is the Lake Country Glass Cutting Pad for really tough stains and a couple more milder/easier options are CarPro Spotless Water Spot & Mineral Remover or Chemical Guys Water Spot Remover. I have been using Wolfgang deep paint 3.0 with wolf chemicals hardbody. Both are super easy to apply and pull off. They also leave a deep finish with insane beading. Then in between washes using wolf chemicals repair QD to restore the hardbody.

Edit: I went to DI's website to see the current price of Jetseal and noticed a 25% off sale running, coupon code Spring14.

yea i just got their email last night. i get all my products through them and since im a state away everything gets here within two days and at great prices. cant beat it. that being said i think im going to give blackfire a try. thinking about getting the polish w/ seal as an AIO for when i'm time limited and the wet diamond sealant when i have more time to apply layers. detailedimage i ordered leatherique prestine clean in my last order but its orangey/tan liquid like the rejuvenating oil, not the white like prestine clean is listed on your website. however the label says prestine clean on it. wanted to double check with you guys before i started applying it my leather. |
