"Volkswagen still has no plans to bring the current Amarok to the U.S., and secondly, the MTM Amarok V8 Passion that was shown this past week at the Geneva Motor Show is a tuner special, also not for importation."

we have a hard enough time getting midsize diesels produced by the manufacturers who already have a developed consumer base for midsize trucks, if we see a diesel midsize truck from VW in less than 10 years I will be surprised. Look at the diesel ram 1500, how long has that been coming "next year"? Now finally its coming and in three days they sold 8000 orders. I guess that is where VW maybe comes in though, the manufacturers dont want to cannibalize their higher priced big truck sales by offering a diesel in a smaller cheaper truck. VW obviously doesnt have the big truck segment in the US so they wont be afraid of losing sales in that segment.

The ONLY reason the RAM 1500 is coming out DIESEL was because the head HONCHO of Dodge albeit FIAT decided to bring their Vimotori Diesel on the truck otherwise It wouldnt happen.

The italian company that makes the diesels that Grand Cherokee and 1/2 ton Ram are getting is actually owned by GM. Same company made 4 cyl diesel for Jeep Liberty in 2005 and 2006. Later, Grand Cherokee got a MB derived V6 turbo diesel and it also sold for 2 yrs (2007 and 2008 I believe).
I agree with Axel on the Italian connection but it isn't the Fiat guy's company. The general owns it. |

I am not a big fan of VW, I would take a Toyota diesel any day over other brands. Land Cruiser comes in V8 diesel outside US. Reliability, that's what matters to me.
I was actually thinking of keeping my 335d till the value goes down substantially, then swap the engine in a 4x4. I've seen people use it in Nissan Patrols (we don't have them here in US, only the latest not the greatest... Infiniti QX80). |
