Upgrade Intake - AFE?
Has anyone here upgraded to the AFE Magnum Force Stage 2 Intake? I have read that in general there isn't much benefit to upgrading the intake on the N55. Is this completely true?
Here is a link to it on Harold's site: http://www.hpashop.com/AFE-Magnum-Fo...stage2-n55.htm Thanks,

The only air intake that has documented dyno gains of about seven or eight horsepower that I know of is the BMS one.
I can't speak to the other air intakes, but generally that is not where you're going to get major gains in your FBO set up. If you're planning to tune- or are already tuned- an intercooler should be your immediate priority. |

Edit: agreed with post above.. A fmic is a better upgrade but also more expensive.. but keep in mind that if you're planning on running meth a fmic isn't that useful Last edited by Andrewe92; 03-16-2014 at 11:46 AM.. |

I am contemplating going the pro tuning route from PTF with Cobb. They can incorporate the FMIC I am assuming. |

I would agree that AFE intake is not worth the money.
I installed my AFE last week and was not too happy with quality. The fitments was ridiculous. Poor design where the sensor is bolted to the tube. Had to use a foam like gasket between the sensor and intake tube. Why couldn't they make it snug like BMW? Also the steel box is way overweight and barely fits in the engine bay. The rubber tube barely fits into intake tube, clamps are too small. I feel like the intake is too constrained and needs to move as the engine moves during acceleration. The only thing I like about it is the sound that the turbo makes from it. You get a nice diverter valve sound. Even though I got it on sale, I don't think it's worth the money. I should have went with BMS, it's cheaper if you are looking for the sound only. |
