Clock ticking sound prior to starting car?
I got my 2011 335i sedan just under a week ago so I am new to its operation. From the first time I turned it on, when you get in the car and sit down there is a sound coming from the instrument cluster area that sounds like a ticking watch. Though it ticks much faster than once per second. Maybe more like 3X/second. Once the car is on it still makes it but it goes away within a couple minutes of driving the car. Is this normal or does anyone know what it is?
The car also had the Service Engine Soon light on and today the icon that looks like a car up on a lift came on as well. What a great introduction to my new car... My apt with the dealer (car is still under original warranty) is this Tuesday, but I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on it now. No idea if this and the ticking are related. The car cranks slowly when starting and the idle bounces between about 800-1200 rpm so I am guessing that the HPFP may be going out. None of this stopped me from doing my first 4 mods today though. |

This might be the sound...the fuel pump bringing the system up to pressure. If it takes more than a few seconds, that can mean the seals are not good, and the lines are leaking when the vehicle is off. Not that familiar with all of the BMW engines, and it could be something else entirely.
