335i Horror Turbo Pics.. Ouch please read
Well for me anyway. This all took place back in October last year only found the pics today on my old camera.
The story goes one normal 335i which consumed around a litre of oil every 1200 miles, which is OK, car had perfect power no issues, then one day without warning smoke out the of side tailpipe which quickly disappeared after 5 minutes after turning the car around and driving back Straight on recovery, stripped as per advise re warranty company... here's what we found when pulling my car apart oil in pipework every where and oil in the intercooler as you can see above warranty company shower of shite as they said a straight No despite me sending them countless info re oil seals on these cars going, went the expense of having the units stripped for an inspection, here's what Turbo Technics found carbon build up on both units when I checked the main one it was seized solid the primary unit had a bit of end float plus the oil issue the main oneis the pics you are looking at here. From a driving perspective never suspected a thing driven plenty of them and even after being re mapped Simon at E Maps like me felt it had plenty of go.. So lesson learned get a decent warranty ( which I now have) and don't use like I did(though the policy had a up to purchase price cover and looked great on paper) AutoProtect roughly translated as a bunch of c**** |

Auto protect???!...do they offer tyre insurance too?... based in Essex?
If yes, then they are a bunch of fucking cunt buckets. I would stay away from these warranty companies, fucking thieving spunk sippers would try anything not to pay out. |

Yes, indeed no matter what info I put in front of them (used all sort of web info plus stuff written by BMW North America re their view on the N54 engine )the words "carbon build up & turbo failure" don't register anything other than a no no in their books. Thing is carbons a natural thing these days and just goes to show that a service history with a catastrophic failure like I experienced means sod all. There were zero warning signs for me. |

Odd thing is Warranty Direct clearly state wear, tear and give a decent text insight re what they'll cover had I been with them I'd of been covered... Painful lesson but you can guess who I'm now covered by |

So did the carbon deposit cause the turbo failure? I thought the carbon deposit only build up in the intake vales, how did they get into the turbos?

The carbon was found within the unit it had coked up the impeller causing it to seize causing the failure, but my seals had also failed, mine was kind of unusual, but the moment the word carbon was mentioned they shut up shop |
