Good Bye 2010' and 2011' 335D.

Been fun guys but I am moving on. I sold the 2010 335D few weeks ago for insanely low price as this was the car that was rear ended in Nov(thx to diminished value claim the beatdown wasn't quite as bad). The guy who bought that car got a heck of a deal cause I couldn't imagine any car coming close to that one in performance for what I sold it for(Gadget, you should have bought this car!!!...)

Will miss the torque and great steering feel and great gas mileage!

Just sold the 2011' M Sport today. Reason I sold in case you are wondering:

1. I am getting sick of BMW's(328is, e30/36 M3, e46 M3 x 2, e92 M3, 335d x 2) and there are tons of 3 series in my neighborhood...wanted to try something different for once(AWD since I live in Pacific NW)....3 series are like Honda Accords around here.

2. carbon issues...disappointed BMW isn't stepping up and extending warranties(although my car was CPO) and resale values being affected...price of diesel gas just as high as premium now....mark my words, BMW will be extending warranties its just a matter of time.

3. Interior looking abit long in the tooth now...had enough of orange for awhile.

Lastly, I will most likely be coming back to the BMW family in another 2 years with F80 M3.

You guys are good...S4 on its way from FL as we speak...gotta drive a dang rental for next week.

Funny thing is this, I bought that car without having ever stepped inside an Audi before...I did go to Audi dealership this week to text drive a new S4(yeah yeah I know I am supposed to do this the other way).

Lets just say the 335D with sports pkg out handles S4 easily. S4 is a very heavy bloated car. Understeers like crazy due to engine placement and heaviness. The steering feel and response much better on 335D. And the exhaust note very uninspiring. Might have to upgrade that exhaust.

And S4 quicker on paper but doesn't feel any faster due to 425 diesel torque..but dang are they a lot nicer on inside..and I won't be seeing a lot of them around town either and awe might come in handy a few days out of the year here.

S4 is a nice sedan that is sporty, but it isn't a true sports car imho...hate to bad mouth a car I just bought but hey, I am just being honest.

Have fun in that Audi! I honestly wished they had the A5 tdi would of been a perfect match if you're craving the diesel haha. But the S4 is a beaut. Been a fan of Audi for a while.

Yeah, I should have bought your car! The only thing that made me hesitant was the carbon buildup and related issues and BMW arguably not currently doing enough to resolve the issues IMHO. Ironically, I located a 335d in my area that I would like to take a look at and possibly purchase. Guess what....the car is currently being serviced for carbon buildup and/or related issues. This kind of stuff is way too much to put up with when you're spending $20K-$35K or more for a car and the car has less than 60K miles. I hope you are right and that BMW does step up and extend warranties. My wife is telling me to pass on BMW and go with a Lexus, but I just love the way the 335d drives. So.... we'll see what I end up buying, fortunately I have options. I'm glad for you that you were able to sell both of your 335d cars and get that Audi S4!

Strange world. I just bought two 335d's. A silver sport one fully loaded except active cruise three weeks ago for the wife and a 335d M Sport in space gray like yours that is fully loaded the same way plus some very nice extras and on its way to me now which should be here at the end of the week. I know about the carbon issues and I'll deal with it. I just left the VW TDI world and switched to these and they have their problems to. We love the Audi's as well and hope you enjoy it. It was just funny to me reading your original post.

We know how you're feeling brother. Not too happy with the way BMW is handling this carbon build-up issue right now and I'm seriously considering jumping into the Porsche camp for my next ride. Of course Porsches come with their own problems but I'm not willing to give BMW a second chance.

I find it interesting how many people come from the TDI world to the 335d like myself. I still have both and love both for different reasons. Honestly the carbon buildup thing has me worried about the future of my 335d. I only have 24K now but feel that when 30-40K starts up, the "fun" will begin.

I hope by then a nice solution of programming and exhaust will be around to remove the DPF and EGR with zero CE codes to properly address the buildup issue.

The BMW diesel tuning folks could take a few pages out of the diesel 3/4 ton tuner's playbook. The difference between a stock Duramax and a tuned one is night and day.

To be honest I have been thinking about jumping ship too, but the only problem is what to get next.

I feel like I would have to get 2 cars to replace this car. Now if the GTD ever comes to Canada I think it would make my decision easy, I miss driving manual.

Guys, you know what would have kept me in this car for awhile(not talking CBU here)???....if this car had DCT...I am just abit too lazy to drive manual anymore for a dd...but the "lag" on this car is pretty bad, hence I could never call this car a true sports car, as I wouldn't want to track this car given the lag...I wouldn't feel confident in it at the track..for normal street driving it is fine...a DCT would be great...blips throttle for you, lightning fast shifts, can't over-rev engine with money shift, and you can use it as a true automatic if so desired.

Now the steering feel on sports pkg car, I have no issues...this car feels so much more visceral and connected vs the car I will be driving by this weekend.

I am very surprised nobody interested in starting a website to document the CBU issues and to throw up some objective data...I have no skin in the game anymore so it will have to be someone else....

I have tracked the car. It does quite well. No trouble with throttle management other than needing to ease out of turns because of all the torque, lesser so with the LSD. Unless the straights are quite long, it does well against the M cars.

What I'm about to say may surprise you and possibly make you happy, mact3333....

The non-M BMW DCT isn't good. Period. In fact, I sold my 8 month year old 335is Convertible that I did Euro Del on because I hated the DCT so much.

And this is coming from a big DSG fan from my Jetta TDI. I really like the dual clutch setup so much on my TDI that I was completely sold on the technology that I actually bought the 335is instead of the 335i because of the availability on the DCT on the is.

Unfortunately the DCT transmission has a "bug" in the software that would cut power and bog down when you were slowing down, turning the wheels and then applying power (like you are turning into a driveway whose entrance was beyond a 90 degree angle).

I took it to the dealer and they said the couldn't reproduce. It happened on the monthly basis.

So between that and the fact that the kickdown shifting was SUPER slow. (It would take literally 1.5 secs to downshift from 7th to 4th to pass someone on the highway.) My TDI DSG takes less than 0.5 secs to do the same thing.

I hated that transmission. So much so that I take a 5K depreciation loss on trading the car in for my 335D.

I can confirm this. I have taken my 335d to Laguna Seca for OFest last year and was passing several E90 M3s. Of course, if they had better drivers, that would probably not be the case- especially on the long straight.

However, many, many people came up to me after a couple of sessions and wondered if it really was a diesel. I feel that the Michelin Super Sports helped tremendously. The only part of the D that let me down were the brakes- they need to be upgraded. The rotors were warping pretty bad on heavy braking at the end of the day.
