DIY intake valve cleaning tips/advice, please.

I am in the process of cleaning my air intake valves and it is looking pretty good so far. While I am able to clean the ports nicely as well as the valve stem, I am having trouble cleaning around the valve seats. Is there any advice on how to clean around the seats? What are some techniques that have been previously used?

I also recommend this pic set, it is very nice for the job

Try letting the cleaner you are using soak in, and then use gun cleaning brushes to try and get those areas.

Soak in brake clean for 20 mins and gently take a small scribe to the gap around the valves.

Hi, i was wondering if you used wire gun brushes to clean/scrape off the carbon after letting it soak on there. Also witch instrument did you find most helpful? The picks, etc to get around the valves…thanks in advance

Did you get a gun brush set? You can also get a brush for a torque gun.

I have found that seafoam intake cleaner works really well and is worth the extra $$ you have to spend. I found it on Amazon for $8.00 a can, which of course is better then the $13.00 a can you will pay at Autozone for example.

Also, make sure you put a little synthetic grease on all of your nuts and bolts as you put everything back together. This way it will be a lot easier to get back in there in 50k when you do this again. I would put some synthetic grease on the fingers the electrical box slides onto for example. A lot of people have stated that this items gets stuck on the fingers and is a major PITA getting off. Proactive grease is always a plus in my mind

This is why walnut blasting is the way to go.

But like the above have said.. Soak and use a "pick" and carefully rub the gunk off.

The picks that I have in the link worked awesome, just the right length and a good variety. At first I used carb cleaner and wire brushes from a gun cleaning kit, letting the valves soak for about a half hour. I wasn't satisfied with those results so I bought a media blaster from Harbor Freight and did the walnut blasting and the results were perfect, not a spot of carbon on the valves.
