Need new tires - Bridgestone vs Michelin
I'm coming up on needing new tires soon. I have a 2008 335i with sport kit, so staggered 18in tires. This will be the 3rd set I've had for this car. When I purchased the car used, it had what I think were the original OEM Bridgestone's in new condition. I replaced these with Michelin PS2's. The Michelin's definitely had a smoother ride, but the Bridgestone's felt like they handled a little better. Although the Michelin's still handle great.
Here's the issue, the Bridgestone's lasted a little more than 15k miles. These Michelin's are only about 12k old and they are already close to needing replacement. At the exorbitant cost of these tires, I'm more concerned about how long they will last. Was this an anomaly or do the Bridgestone's really last longer? |

Go with the michelin pilot super sports, they do last a bit longer then the ps2's. If you do want to save a little money you could go with the bridgestone so4's which were also really good tires that were rated just behind the michelin pss's.

The Bridgestone Potenza S04 Pole Position is indeed a good alternate choice to the Michelin Pilot Super Sport. Between the two, the Pilot Super Sport has slightly more grip and faster steering response, while the Bridgestone S04 Pole Position has a bit softer and quieter ride. Hard to go wrong with either tire. You can view our recent testing data on both tires in this test : http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...&affiliate=AH8

Goodyear F1 all-season
You could get 235/45/18 for under 200 a tire. 45,000 tire and y rated, they are asymmetrical. So, they can be rotated crosswise and therefore will last longer then directional tires.

I've got just under 32k on the OEM re50a's, and they'll need replacement soon. Going with the S-04's, just a tick less than the Michelins at a significantly lower cost. Of course, I'll have to get a donut spare. I'm surprised your tires wear so quickly; track time?
Tires are about compromises. Price, performance, durability all figure in. Want the ultimate? Go for Michelin cup; but it won't last long. |
