What a week! HPFP, Water Pump and Shifter issues
Hi all,
Just a quick rant about the fun week I've had - 08 335i, AT, 50k miles. Last couple of weeks, I've had the classic signs of HPFP failure. Finally got the P29F2 code and took her in last Friday (4/4). Diagnnosis - HPFP failure - replaced under the extended coverage. Driving the car home, I figured I'd give it some stick to make sure I'm not getting any misfires/limp mode. Put it over into DS mode, no response. Cluster shows "D". Retry several times. Nothing. I exposed the shifter assembly and, sure enough, there's a broken wire. I call the dealer to make an appointment since I have an extended warranty that will cover it. The following Tuesday (4/8), my wife is the car home from work, and a temp warning comes up, immediately throwing the car into limp mode so she pulls over. I come to the rescue, check coolant level and all looks fine. First thought - water pump. I have it towed to the dealer, and sure enough, the water pump just failed. Not the impeller, but the motor itself. Anyhow, it's all covered under my warranty ($2400 for shifter assembly and water pump installed), so I'm relieved. End of rant. Cheers! |
