So I have heard you don't need the mtech bumper guides?

I needed it for an OEM mtech bumper for my LCI. Might be different if you grab a rep off JGmods.

They are @$25 per side at BMWMercedasparts. I initially thought it was just the screw holes on bottem lined up differently, but they are the same. I think the difference is just the curvarture.

The ones meant for msport don't protrude as much. I did a dry fit on mine before painting, using the non-msport guides and it looked fine to me, but I didn't screw everything down so possibly I would have noticed the guides pushing the bumper cover out if I had actually fully installed it.

You can probably just shave it down a bit, but $50 to just have the right guides was an easier solution to me.

I have heard at least 3 people tell me I don't need the new guides but non have mentioned about modifications lol. Even modmy3 told me I don't need them.

Just trying to get to the bottom of the deal so others can get it answered too.

you don't (but it has to be aftermarket designed for your car) you will if you get the mtech oem one like mention above. I see you have an m3 rep. that's pretty much the same discussion before if they needed the m3 guides or whatever they would argue about lol.

Is this the same with the front bumper? The mtech guides are only needed if it is an oem replacement?

Note: this thread may be specifically for the e90.

I don't think new guides needed for front Mtech on e90 LCI, just vents and linings, and the "optional" bottom belly pan adaptor. Oh, and fog light plug adaptor.

Disclaimer: I've not done this myself just yet, but in the same boat as OP, gathering info on what to buy.

I'll step in. You do not NEED the guides, but its recommended you change them for best fitment. Since there is a clipping point inside the bumper on the sides that only the M Sport guide has the grove in the right place for, you can force the bumper on and the clip will simply bend if you don't have the upgraded guides installed.

The M Tech front, both OEM & Replica will Absolutely need m sport hardware to install. Which includes, but is not limited to, fender liners, lower engine extension, etc.

This is funny, because i bought those guides and bodyshop said after they installed my m-sport rear, that those weren't needed and they where exactly the same, so they didn't change those and didn't mention anything about not fitting properly. I don't see any issues of how the bumper sits in place. Now i have extra bumper guides.

This is also on other weird thing. I didn't need new fender liners all the screw places where exactly the same place as it would have been with stock bumper. That adapter for the bottom plastic i bought and it was kinda needed. I know some people just push the bottom inside the bumper, but don't screw it on. My car is pre-lci E90.
