Does anyone else sell a module other than dealer?

Dealer says I need a new module. $1500, plus install etc. Thats a big price tag, especially since I only have 25,000 on the car, and its a 2009. Anyway, do I have any other choice other than to pay that price for a newecomputer/module?

Thanks!

Again, if you don't be specific as to what module it is, no one can help you. It's like saying the doctor says I need a new organ.

But to answer your question, yes of course. As long as you know what you are searching for, this forum, ebay, amazon, getbmwparts etc, all sell various modules.

Check the emissions warranty requirements in Florida. The ECU is usually covered for the duration of the emissions warranty. Emission warranties vary state to state.

Actually, the Federal emissions warranty mandates the ECU be covered to 8/80K. It's one of the 3 things (including catalytic converter and OBD system) so covered.

I think that is California only, but regardless, I think based on the car's mileage it should be covered under the emissions warranty.

No, the CA warranty covers all emissions parts to 7/70K, the Federal coverage is separate. Look in the Maintenance and Warranty book, around page 30.

wow, I gotta follow this up- too good to be true(?). Thing is, I lost my owners manual. Anyone care to scan that page for me- would be big favor, of course. Meanwhile, I will do more digging on tjhis.......

Thanks.

If they don't cover it and you're good with a soldering iron I would open it up . . I had a Volvo where the main ECU was bad and I took the cover off and it had a bad solder joint . . re-soldered it and was as good as new. Also there are some companies online that will repair it if you send it to them but I think the cost is usually a few hundred dollars.

Thnaks, row, thats what I was thinking of but I have to know, as I posted in post # 4, must I have the dealer program it? Or can one just "pop" it back in?? Seems too easy to just pop it back in yourself- seems BM has to "dirty their hands" with it no matter what the scenario is.

oh- here it is:http://www.epa.gov/obd/pubs/420f09048.pdf

reads kinda confusing. We dont have emissions testing in FL. Does that exclude me for that purpose(?).
