335D Coolant Change
Hi,
my service is due soon on my 335D and am just gathering bits that i require doing. Can anyone tell me how much coolant is required to do a coolant flush? And is it best to use the BMW Blue / Green long life stuff supposedly good for 15 years? Thanks M |

Differential Oil: Castrol Syntrax Long Life 75W-90 Gear Oil. Find on Ebay. 1 Litre is sufficient based on pumping out the current oil using a cheap transfer pump (there is a DIY on here somewhere) and then replacing with new oil.
Coolant: Comma XSG5L 5L Xstream G48: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/COMMA-XSG5...item1e82db82ec I mixed coolant with water at 40:60 ratio and used just over 2.5 litres of coolant Also see http://www.incarmotorfactors.co.uk/e...tre-xsg5l.html which contains my review.

Yes. I bought this kit and Darren Woods fitted for around £100. Actually I remember now. I bought the Mehle kit which was £100 cheaper than the ZF.

The coolant capacity is 8 point something litres, therefore youll need 3x 1.5L bottles of BMW coolant (blue colour) plus 4.5L of pure water.
Depending who you speak to at BMW theyll tell you its a lifetime item or change every 4 years. I recommend every 2 years inline with brake fluid change. I used that ZF service kit last summer. You might find that youll only get ~4L out of the tranny during the change (think the rest hides away in the torque converter). When i done mine at 58k miles the oil was black and contaminated with tiny swarf. Some people will tell you not to change the tranny oil if its been more than 60k miles (since new / or the last change) as it may do more harm than good by getting rid of all the debris which might be helping operation. I dont know how true that is, but its something to research if your cars on higher mileage. |
