Average annual cost out of warranty
So I was reading through the thread that was recently started about the cost of 2013 maintenance. Definitely a good thread and very informative.
However, I think a more broad thread could be even more informative, which is why I am starting this one. We read about these cars costing a ton for some people out of warranty, while costing other hardly anything at all. So for this thread, state: 1. Year and model 2. Miles when bought the car and miles currently on it 3. Average yearly maintenance (what has been done and the cost) 4. Tuned or stock (if tuned, state the modifications) 5. Any additional information that should be included (how you drive the car, if the failures were from negligence, etc) I think if enough people jump on board with this thread, the debate on how reliable these cars are can be seem pretty accurately. I will start... 2007 BMW 335i coupe 33k miles when purchased about a year ago, 42k miles currently About 500 dollars in maintenance (two oil changed that were DIY, one ignition coil, all spark plugs changed) Tuned since 35k miles. (COBB AP stage 1 aggressive) I drive the car very easy, approximately 800 miles a month |

29K when purchased, 53K now Plugs twice, 4 or 5 oil changes, trans fluid, brakes (pads, fluid, rotors), power steering fluid, walnut blasting, all 6 coils, valve cover gasket, all 4 o2 sensors, the low pressure pump is on the way out and is being replaced. So whatever that cost. Drive the car every day, hard. Several of those items were incidental for the mileage, so it's not like i'm replacing them yearly. Next up is diff fluid, water pump+thermo, and turbos. 2010 335i 16K purchased, 20K currently A few hundred bucks, I swapped all fluids except coolant and PS fluid when I took ownership. Nothing else. Bone stock Doesn't get driven much honestly...lol.

Awesome guys. if we get a few hundred posts of what the average yearly maintenance is we can finally settle the debate on how reliable and how costly our rides are.
I think they are for the most part just as reliable as an other high performance car, but lets get these posts going and we'll see! |

6MT JB4 G5 and DCI Bought at 59k now at 69K Just got it back from the dealer for all of the bank 1 injectors and O2 sensor Last August was a water pump and thermostat at 65K Without extended warranty I'd be $2600 in the hole instead of $500 Basic maintenance of 6 plugs ($65) and a single oil change $(100) Trying to find an Indy shop to do the walnut blasting in central va so you might as well add that to my total for less than a year of ownership. But I love the car! |

1. Year and model
2007 335i 2. Miles when bought the car and miles currently on it 26,000 miles at purchase, currently 52,000. Average mileage 5,200/year. 3. Average yearly maintenance (what has been done and the cost) The previous owner and I have kept quite good records so I'll break it down by year. 2007: $0 2008: $80 2009: $80 2010: $142 2011: $275 2012: $125 2013: $142 2014: YTD $1500, trans maintenance plus replacing the oem tires. Yearly average: ~$300 I've done all the maintenance since 2010 and loosely try to follow BavAuto Oto's maintenance schedule. 4. Tuned or stock (if tuned, state the modifications) Stock but I've got an air freshner. 5. Any additional information that should be included (how you drive the car, if the failures were from negligence, etc). I mostly drive conservative with a small percentage of spirited driving. |

Repairs should be correlated to mileage rather than only 'years' to more accurately portray a typical owners service experience.
2007 335i coupe 6mt Purchased 38k miles in late 2010 Currently 102k. Never tracked, driven aggressive at times, but mostly driven 'normal' due to long work commute. Right now Car runs strong like bull!! I think I'm forgetting something....
