E91 KeyFob issue & warranty?
Hello all!
I collected my first ever BMW, an AUC pre LCI E91 MS Touring a week ago, very pleased until.. No response from the car to any key fob presses today from either of the 2 fobs in my possession. Helpful people on the assist helpline kindly pointed me in the right direction for getting the physical key from the fob & the car starts OK so thankfully not stranded. Usually I wouldn't expect much from a warranty but part of the lure of buying this car is the apparently great warranty provided by BMW... I'll give the dealer a shout tomorrow - do you think this kind of item should be covered? If not any pointers in highlighting potential source of the issue much appreciated. |

Can't see why that wouldn't be covered. Have you tried it again? If I'm right (not very often) these keys charge whist being used in the ignition so taking the car it for a drive may actually cure this problem.
Again, I could be talking absolute rubbish but I know it worked for a mini we used to have with the same issue |

Your right in saying the keys charge whilst in the ignition while driving. Bit odd though they both aren't working. Isn't there something in the spoiler above the back window that's gets wet on the E91 and these are the symptoms. The first part is right the second I'm not 100%. Maybe someone with the right answer will be almong soon.

I had a similar problem and it was the central locking fuse that had blown.
When you unlock with the key does the passenger door unlock too or just the driver's door? If so then it is probably the fuse. The next step is to get to the fuse! It's located in the fuse box which is behind the glove box. Getting to it when you can't open the passenger door takes some doing to say the least! If it is this fuse then upgrade it to the next size up to avoid the problem in the future. I understand this is what BMW recommend. Why they didn't do this during dealer servicing is typical of BMW unfortunately. They tend to be a bit 'head in the sand' on things like this. Various other known problems on the E90/91 are also ignored by BMW until they fail...steering column/lock, ABS/DTC pump rebuild to name but two. My car was even built with LHD headlights which weren't noticed until just before the first MOT! Ask BMW dealer for a service printout which should include all work done including those such as the above. |

Thanks very much for feedback so far!
Tried the fobs again around the time of my post... nada... Tried again an hour or so later - both fobs worked OK again. Took car for a reasonable drive to ensure charge for a fob, however now doubt this would be the problem as both are affected either way. Let's hope this doesn't turn into an intermittent issue of some kind. I'd much rather it stays broken so it could be demonstrated to the dealer. |

I don't know whether the issue has happened whilst your car has been parked at the same location, but I have heard of some areas, where due to interference from components in the vicinity,it can affect the remote central locking on some vehicles.
Remember that you still have the key blade within your fob if you're stuck... |

The AUC will sort it. I got a new key because the BMW badge had fallen off one of the keys when I picked up the car!
