335i running rough, need some help

2007 e92 335, 86,xxx miles, JB4 + DCI.

Was going to work yesterday, got on the highway and stepped on it quite a bit, got to about 90mph in 3rd gear then the car wasn't accelerating as well as it should be, felt like it lost a lot of power, then the "Service Engine Soon" light came on and the car was violently shaking, kinda like I was driving on the worst road in the world. I pull over and popped the hood, no smoke, no leaks, maybe just a strange noise if that. I thought a blew a turbo or maybe the entire engine at first. So I got back in and headed home. Every time I accelerated the car would violently shake again and wouldn't accelerate very much at all. Exhaust was rumbling and the car just sounded like something was seriously wrong. I got home and turned the car off, about 5 minutes later I turned it back on and everything was working perfectly. No weird noise, accelerated just fine, and drove perfectly. Can anyone let me know what might have been the problem or what I need to get fixed on my car?

Thanks in advance.

1: read the codes. If you done have tool, go to autozone. They read codes for free. 2nd... Do some research lol, 99% of time first check spark plugs, then maybe coilpacks then maybe injectors then maybe carbon buildup may be an issue in your valves (depending on ur milage) get them walnut blasted. If your throwing a misfire code, you can single out which cylinder

Okay, read the codes and got these:

29D1 Misfirings, cylinder 5
29D0 Misfirings, cylinder 4
29CC Misfirings, several cylinders

I'll go read the misfire thread now.

Sounds like your ignition coils. Once you make the service engine light come on you need to stop the car and pull the key out to make it go away.

Hopefully it's just the plugs/coils for you. Have similar problems, and its looking like the injectors for me.

Just had this happen to me OP, just a few days ago, SES light came on: Cylinder 3 misfire, bought new ignition coil and replaced with old one last saturday. , I floored it a little over the weekend and sped a little to check integrity of the new coil to make sure it wasn't anything else. Haven't had issues since! Fingers crossed.

Good luck to you op, chances are it's just a bad ignition coil, those tend to be infamous on our cars for being bad.

Edit* Mine is an 07 E90 with about 82k miles
