Wheel Bolts for Split Rims. - SSR, need help

Hi everyone.

I have SSR Professor MS1 rims

I have contacted SSR but they are unhelpful

I am getting my rims refurbed and need a new set of bolts for the split rims.

In order to buy the right spec, i need to know what i need right?

Would anyone know or know a way of finding out this info?

josh youll need to know the metric size, thread pitch and length. mostly like yours is a m7x1.25 25-30 im not completely sure. you can remove one bolt measure it with a thread pitch gauge or have a shop do it for you.

Cheers mate.. i will compare those specs with what i find.
Should i deflate the tyre before taking one out?
Do i need to use loctite or anything to put it back together?

what are you actually doing with refurbing? those ssr 3p are welded and the center disc comes apart if you unbolt the wheel...basically its a 2p. the face is a front mount so you just remove the bolts. You might as well deflate the tire anyways since the shop will dismount it.

They tell you youre not supposed to reuse the wheel bolts but ive done it myself and others as well. long as they are not over torqued. its a liability issue which ssr told me in person, they dont encourage the novice to break apart their wheels and modify them which is why they are welded.

but yes one of their sales told me pending on what year the wheels were produced they come welded and siliconed. so just deflate them yourself to be safe and take the center disc out and have your ways with it lol

Yep you are right Tee and thanks for confirming what i heard too.
Yea the barrels are welded together which is somewhat good as there is less chance of leaks.

I am refurbing my faces by machine polishing them and repolsihing my lips.
I had this done last year and re used my original bolts.
But this time around i want to go with gold bolts so need to find some which are the right spec.

Could i theoretically remove the face with the tyre still on the wheel with the tyre inflated?

yes you can, ive never done it myself but i dont see a reason why not. you can just get your bolts gold plated

Hmmm Thanks Tee! Don't know why i didn't think of just gold plating my bolts.

Ill see how much it costs for 160 bolts!

I have the SSR Professor MS1 wheels also. The original hardware from SSR are M6x1x25 socket head cap screws with internal 12 point drive. I've refinished these wheels by replacing the hardware with BBS M7 bolts since you cannot get hardware replacement through SSR/Tanabe/More-Japan. Trust me your life will be a lot easier swapping them out for M7 bolts. I almost have a full set of used SSR bolts but I am about 10 short. I'd love to buy even used SSR bolts but can't find any.

I didn't have to tap anything. All I did was drill thru all the holes to open them up slightly for the M7 bolts. I also got new serrated flange nuts for the M7 bolts.

The reason I didn't use aftermarket bolts in M6 size is for two reasons:
1) The heads of all the aftermarket bolts that I found do not have a large enough shoulder to contact the faces of bolt holes in the wheel centers. (The SSR bolts have a nice contact area under the heads that no aftermarket bolts seem to have).
2) The heads of aftermarket bolts would be hex-drive not the 12-point that SSR uses (atleast what I was able to locate).

Switching to BBS bolts in M7 size allowed me to use new hardware and still keep the look of the 12-point heads.
