Really!?

All that added HP and Torque and only a 1mpg decrease? Wow!

looks like it is #3 on the Mod list!

Don't like the look of the electronics based on the picture from BMS. Those parts are definitely not Automotive Underhood rated. I will try to locate this in the crew cockpit and run the cable thru the firewall.

I would agree and this would be my only complaint about it. They use very inexpensive parts. I work at a place that makes wiring harnesses for Caterpillar engines and this kind of wire and loom are things that should be avoided in high heat areas such as our engine bays. I would have also liked to have seen an enclosure that's actually water proof. They could have easily used nicer parts for less than an additional $10. But on the other hand I haven't heard of heat or water actually damaging any of them.

The cable isn't long enough for that, unless you rig up some sort of extension. I've only had mine installed for about a week now, so I can't speak personally on the unit's longevity under the hood, but I can say I've never heard, or read, of anyone having a failure from "underhood exposure". It's pretty much in the same league as any other 3rd party electronics box one would install in the engine bay in my experience. I've had aftermarket boxes in the engine compartment of my 2000 F350 powerstroke for going on 14 years now without issue, and it sees much worse environments than I put my 335d through.

The housing seems to be polycarbonate. Usually they have an RTI of 150°C.
The housing gets located near the driver strut tower, so really no heat generating components there.
The wire loom seems to be holding up just fine, and it runs from the top on the intake manifold. I did have to buy additional wire loom, about 6 inches, to completely insulate all the wires.

I used their prior products (jb4) and had a very positive experience. Same goes for the JBd. I kinda feel vulnerable driving without it.

The electronics are typically rate to 70c so can fail over time. The dip socket is a bad choice due to thermal expansion that can cause intermittences.
When I get this, I will beef it up to increase its reliability.

I'd love to confirm that I am doing it correctly. Any way I could convince you to meet me at your favorite lunch spot? :-)

Starbucks gift card?

Or if you have detailed pics?

I am in Norcal and all over the Bay Area pretty often.

I had a JBD in my 2011 335d for almost 2.5yrs without issue. The unit itself runs hot/warm, so beefing up the casing isn't really going to do much IMO when the chip itself runs hot.

I agree about the box. That would have little to no impact. I was talking about the electronics - remove the ic socket and solder the chip directly to the pcb. Replacing the caps and resistors with higher rated parts.
Heat will shorten the life of the electronics. While you live in the great white north (take off hoser), you will not have the 100+ degree ambient temps like others in the south west. Engine temp rise above ambient will have an impact on the commercial electronics.

Im sure if the unit got fried due to underhood heat JBD would take care of the box with a new one or some how repair the damaged one, otherwise it would be a bad business move to not help all the fried boxes due to heat...hence I don't think its a problem seeing ive never heard of them doing this...

I have an office in Santa Clara. I live in the Sierra Nevada foothills and have a family place in Santa Cruz. In other words...

I am all over NorCal.

With my tools in had to remove the engine cover, it can easily be done in any parking lot. I just want to make 100 percent sure that I am doing everything right. Then if I get another "hard limp mode" error, I will give up.
