Thats what the OP is trying to do but its a question of whether there is a feed to take a reading from...

If there is a feed in a 6 cyl coupe, I'd be surprised if there wasn't one in an e91/90. Would have thought it to be just different clusters ?

I thought someone (going back about 4 yrs or so) had found a way to change the mpg swingometer into an oil temp guage. Obviously there's no readable scale, but it did give an indication of the engine getting up to temperature (and ready for lots of the lovely gravy) and/or getting too hot !!

And p.s. ..... I'd always assumed the M3 and 335i don't have the swingometer cos
1. If you buy and drive one of those you don't care about mpg and/or
2. The readings would be a tad embarrassing for all concerned !!

have post LCI 2009 335 but D, wish to know if oil temperature is possible, even if I have to re code the car, you guys in EU do talk about 6 or 4 cylinders but here, well we don't get the same, but still oil temperature is way better to know than the coolant temperature, hope someone has some good answers my wheels are at the stealership but I will look into it as soon as I get them back

The only place I found engine oil temp is in the automatic gearbox ecu that read engine oil temp. I watch mine with a snap on machine. Also mine is a 330d m57! I would prefer the oil temp that instant consumption is a crap idea!

Requires as bit of coding, but seems the oil temp gauge can be fitted by swapping clusters:

Got 335 clocks, plugged in, no coding, all worked including oil temp. So there is a temp sensor:
