I have a vibe cbr 12 black air 500 watt rms with built in amp. Its around 8year old model. The problem is that its not powerful enough yet its 500 watts rms can hardly feel any bass at all the gain is 3/4 and lpf is set at 70. My friend has a 250watt rms jl sub and amp and its alot more powerful than mine is that due to the wear and tear on my sub or is it jus that vibe are rubbish. I would like to know what sub you guys Have installed

Vibe = junk/rubbish/trash/dirt (you get the picture )

The trunk is a bass trap. Conventional (pre-fabed) subwoofer enclosures do not do well. Look at Infinite Baffle of Corner Enclosure options.

I have 2 kicker CVRs in a ported kicker box, in lieu of a trunk. Hooked them up to a JL1000/1. Its all tapped into my stock Logic 7 system. And it's very loud, especially if I let the seats down. Speakers face the rear. I'm looking to downsize, personally.

I have 2 of the newer Alpine Type R's on 2200 watts rms. I thought about trying "infinite baffle", but I'm not sure it would be as loud as my current setup.

I think only 2 15s would be louder IB than two 12s ported.

I wouldn't consider that infinite baffle. It would just be 2 15's in a large sealed box. The trunk is kind of small even for a single 15 IMO.

My last setup was a 15" Fi BTL in a 7 cube(net) box ported to 28 hz with 2200watts rms. That setup wasn't very practical considering the sub weighed about 50lbs, the box weighed over 100lbs and was bigger than the trunk opening. With both setups I had the sub(s) facing the cabin which I think is the best way to prevent rattles.

Let's not get too technical. There are THOUSANDS of car audio experts, who would disagree with you. "IB" is a freely used term in car audio. Yes, it is not exactly "infinite" baffle, but it's close enough. The trunks are not sealed, so they don't pressurize like a sealed enclosure would. That makes the enclosure behave larger than the 16 cu ft or whatever the volume is.

A single 15 actually works very, very well. So do two 15s, or 18s, there are plenty of people out there with set-ups like that in trunks with about the same size. They all call it infinite baffle. It's not a term I invented, I just use it.

A real infinite baffle setup would be found in a home theater setup. The volume of the trunk is closer to 12 cubic feet, but I guess you are right about the trunk being vented. EIther way 8 cubic feet per sub isn't much. Definitely doesn't seem like enough for 2 18's. I had a single 15" BTL in a 7 cubic foot(net volume) ported box, and it could still handle more than rms. I'd like to hear an "infinite baffle" setup maybe that would change my mind about it.

You could also look at the cabin as a larger sealed box(or ported if the windows are down lol) which would mean the car is a very large bandpass box.

I assure you, I am far from a bass junkie. I would agree, but your 'game over' comment really got me curious ..

AFAIK Vibe gets others to make the equipment and then puts their logo on it. For example, their Space series of amps are class GH amps which use the Robert Zeff amp designs, just like Clarion, Cerwin Vega, Elf, and Arc Audio. http://www.vibeaudio.co.uk/car/space-amplifiers/ I have no idea who makes their subs. Plus, I doubt the built-in amp you have is a class GH.

In terms of the volume difference, the power ratings of amps can be misleading unless you are comparing apples to apples. Look for the power output at 4 ohms and 2 ohms and at what voltage (14.4 volts or 12 volts) it is specified. Some amps (with unregulated power supply) will make more power with more voltage. Also, the amp can provide more voltage to a 2 ohm load than a 4 ohm load (ohm's law). Another factor to consider is the efficiency of the sub. One sub may produce more output (volume) than another sub, all other factors being equal (e.g., same amp etc.).

I'd suggest getting a separate amp and sub. Get an amp that produces good power. such as JL Audio, Digital Designs, etc. Get a good sub. I suggest compiling a CD of songs that you are familiar with that have good bass and then going around listening to different subs. I have heard good things about the Dynaudio Esotar 1200 and plan to have one installed IB in my car. I have owned the Morel Ulitmo 12 (some friends and I did a 12" subwoofer shootout and published the results on DIYMA and the Ultimo won that shootout) and highly recommend it. The JL 12W6 is also a good performer. If you can find a Boston Acoustics G512 used, I own this sub and highly recommend it. Another excellent sub that I have run is the Resonant Engineering (RE) SE 12 (the RE SEX12 v2 has comparable specs). After he built RE up and sold it off, the founder of RE started Fi, and Fi Q series represents their SQ offerings.

I have 2 aura 18's in a IB setup and it works great.

I like your setup, but I really don't think its infinite baffle. To me it looks like reverse mounted subs in a sealed box. Either way I'm sure it works well.
